2025 Outlook: Maschine, Kontrol, and NKS Hardware Partnerships

You nailed it.
It feels bad for both NI users and NI employees...
Amazing to think that I'm glad having a KK mk2 rather than a KK mk3.
NI managment should be careful : it's long and difficult to build a reputation and a user base but it's quick and easy to lose it.

Thanks Chris, it does answer the question, but my best advice would be not to ommit that information originally.
Had your original post mentioned drag & drop, sub banks etc, the Komplete Kontrol community would have felt like something was happening; and things they had been asking for.
This isn't a dig at you, Chris.3 -
Hi @BIF
Please see my other post about whats next for KK (after the NKS HW integration) and how we plan work before the development work starts. What is posted here is official (confident to deliver), however we have lists of improvements looking into the future that myself and the Hardware Systems leadership team are constantly discussing and prioritise before bringing it to the community. The confidence comes from all of the additional development preparation work mentioned in the other post, so this constraint only allows us to share 1 quarter into the future to the community.
For the Kontrol S-Series MK3 update, can you elaborate, or other power users reading this, please fill in your top 3 requests?
I'm not preparing you for more radio silence, quite the opposite. I'm saying this to bring awareness to the silence since i took over from Matt in October 2024 (who was great at communication with the community), and i was onboarding onto new responsibilities which needed my full attention.
Going forward, I will be much more present on the community space, answering as many questions as i can providing quarter updates like this.4 -
What I posted here would be good for starters

Ok thank you Chris for the clarification.
That is a relief and thank you for listening to users.0 -
@Matthew_NI wrote somewhere else:
Kontakt cannot run on Maschine+ in standalone.
@Chris_NI announced:
Maschine 3 on Maschine+ (Q2 Release)
Bringing Maschine 3 to Maschine+ is a top priority, […]
Additionally, we are adding Kontakt 8 support […]
The audience is confused. 😵💫

Not only the audience seems confused unluckily.
And that “it’s really hard for us to plan more than 1 quarter ahead” is not reassuring either. Probably a cause of the many issues and uncertainty of direction to take seen in the last years

@ozon you beat me to it! I was going to mention that, but TBF Matthew did end up clarifying that he meant the full version, after several people questioned the statement.

@Chris_NI My personal list of Kontrol S-series MK3 features are as follows:
- The ability to browser and select presets, loops, and samples in Maschine 3. I've grown accustom to being able to easily do this in other DAWs.
- The mixer view for Maschine 3. In Logic, I tend to stay on the Kontrol S while moving to the next track and recording. Adding a mixer view for Maschine would help with this. Ultimately parity between how the Kontrol S-series MK3 works with Maschine 3 vs other DAWs.
- For all DAWs, being able to mute and solo tracks is fine, but I would also like to select a track instead of moving one by one to the next track.
I like the roadmap that has been laid out for Maschine. I have one request for Maschine software. With 16 stereo inputs and outputs, having the an I/O effect similar to other DAWs with delay compensation would really open up the standalone software to be used with external effects. I love the workflow of Maschine, but there is always that point where I have to switch to another DAW.

It really tough to be positive at all.. they are 2 years behind on what they promised and 5 years behind on what they stripped away from komplete kontrol. Don't be surprised when Another vendor purchases NI. The only clear communication here is coming soon and they never broke that promised it's still coming soon.. kontrol mk3 is 16 months old and what was promised and stripped away is coming soon!
At the end of 2025 nothing what we asked for in the software will be fixed
Do research on your past post for the past 16 months did they check off a box for u and are u happy?

I know…
If you notice, in my first post here I asked not to close this thread in just a week because I was “waiting to answer to find a way to express my thoughts in a constructive way”.
I’m struggling to even find a way to do it…
And I don’t want to be ONLY negative: things coming are anyway welcome (any thing, even if I think they should not be top priorities, at least for me). But the fact that those things were already “coming soon” so much time ago and they are still in the same situation…makes me start to think they are just pushing our legs and keeping us quiet…😔

Kontakt cannot run on Maschine+ in standalone. ←— SO FAR
Additionally, we are adding Kontakt 8 support ←— IN THE NEXT UPDATES
It is crystal clear to me and i don't understand why anyone should be confused by that!
Also,
Kontakt cannot run on Maschine+ in standalone
He said "standalone" (aka an .exe file). This, does not mean that a plugin (of some specific format) can not.
It is simply a matter of format.I might be wrong, but when i read those, i instantly thought exactly what i wrote above.
1 -
But what you wrote above is not what he wrote.
The “So far” part has no sense, since we were talking about the Kontakt that is ALREADY in M+ (and indeed he corrected himself after, as PK says)
The “standalone” was referring to M+ standalone, not Kontakt (therefore also the .exe part has no sense). He specified it because M+ in controller mode can use Kontakt on desktop, like any other Maschine model
As you see, crystal clear can be a matter of how the mind that read something interpreted it.
5 -
No, "in standalone" when referring to the Maschine+ does not mean an exe file (i.e. on the computer).
It means on the Maschine+ (which is a standalone unit).
Plus, Matthew did not say or even imply "so far". He said it cannot run.
But he later modified this to "the full version of…" (and I think most of us would assume that of course the full version wouldn't run on a low spec CPU).
Of course then it follows that when Chris refers to Kontakt 8 on M+ it will be a 'lite version'.
2 -
But… i am not answering to you, but to ozon… (that's why i always quote the person, to avoid confusions… ) 😊
perhaps, but it still does not make sense to me…
"Kontakt cannot run on Maschine+ in standalone" grammatically, as a phrase, it makes no sense as you explained it. Because a standalone device and a standalone application, are 2 very different things…
Unless if Mat spelled it incorrectly of course… 😉
Anyway, not a real issue for more debate, i think… 🙏
