Hi , why kontakt takes so long to load even small libraries (~40mb) , and what does "converting" mean?

I think you need to be more specific such as:

    What exactly is "so long"?

What kind of computer are you on? Memory, etc.

What kind of drive are your libraries on (SSD, HDD, etc)

Which version of Kontakt and Native Access are you using?

"converting" would insinuate you've got a disconnect between the version of Kontakt and the version of the library. So I'd start by looking at the library in Native Access to see how it's listed or if it has problems.

For reference I'm on Windows 10 with 16gb of memory and Alicia's Keys on Kontakt 8 loads initially in about 5 seconds

I use kontakt4 i think in those projects , the library spec i don't remember, maybe older. There's no native access ofc for these old libraries.

40mb should load very fast even in 7200rpm disk but i use ssd and it takes ~15sec (= forever) to load, i didn't count. Even in a compressed format , what long it takes to unzip a 40mb rar file for you , amazingly bad…

    I suspect i need a batch re-save?

Well Kontakt 4 has been discontinued for a while now. You didn't mention your operating system. Maybe you can apply some of these steps for Kontakt 4: Kontakt - Slow Loading Times

Other than that, it could be related to permissions, you didn't mention if it was happening in standalone, in a DAW, etc…

Does this happen also after a fresh reboot of your computer and you gives Windows time to properly load everything and then try ? Sometimes Windows programs load times depend of things that we do not know or do not notice.

Thanks for all the replies, that kontakt article looks helpful although it still doesn't explain WHEN do you need a batch re-save other than having missing files/wrong path, which i don't. I've seen that my (daw) projects without kontakt load very fast , it's always kontakt that slows the recall. Even plugins with heavy/slow drm load fast, other samplers likewise.

I use k4 exactly for compatibility but it's no use in this case, NI should have informed about this with an email or even a pop up window that lets the user know about this instead of converting every time… why doesn't it do it one time , it's quite stupid and it has cost me hours of waiting.

Instead of converting once and saving it, it probably does a batch resave everytime i load a project, it might as well be about permissions unpacking in a system folder (win7) , unbelievable.

Also the library is for kontakt 3 full with 24/96K files, kontakt re-samples internally on the fly i guess? At first i had thought that it maybe converts files to the native sample rate at 44K.
