Solving "the device has no selected output controls" on Mac?

All of a sudden my Mac is showing "the device has no selected output controls" and I am unable to monitor via Maschine (see attached). Assume this is a Mac problem, but wondering if anyone has a way to solve it? Thanks for your help.

No. I've been using my headphone port to monitor. It's very strange, one day it was fine, the next not.

@McG Do you have other audio devices connected to the Mac? There's an aggregate device, what is it composed of? I'm wondering if it could be soomthing similar to this case here:

    I'm running Catalina 10.15.7 (I know I need a new computer).

    No other audio devices connected.

I was asking what device is this aggregate device?

If you run the Maschine software and select the MK3 as output, is it working?

Oh, sorry. There isn't any other device (that I'm aware of) - nothing else connected, anyway.

I always select the Maschine option and always get the "no output controls" message, so I connect my monitors to the laptop.

Sorry it's al ittle bit tricky, I don't have access to a Catalina system at the moment so there could be differences due to different OS (I'm on Ventura). of the MK3

So, I believe that this message "the device has no selected output controls" only means that you can't control the output with the volume slider of your Mac, see picture below or with the volume keys on your Mac's keyboard. It has nothing to do with an issue with the MK3 soundcard.

So it only means the issue is coming from somewhere else.

If you select the MK3 as output and let something play on your computer, do you get sound in the headphones output of the MK3? On the Linne out output? Is the Line out knob volume on the MK3 up or down?

If you go to audio & MIDI setup, in your Applications → Utilities, how do the input and output of the MK3 show up?

    Hi,

Im currently on osx 10.15.7 and I can see the no output message.

@Jeremy_NI you are right it only disables the volume Control through your Mac controls.

I have no problem monitoring Maschine 2 through the maschine hardware outputs (I do have the plus but using it in controller mode for this test. Also other audio software and web browser do play audio through the Maschine line outputs.

sorry for the blurry picture ( old iPad) video makes it unreadable)

honestly I never checked the sounds tab before since I set my outputs in the maschine 2 preferences panel.

hope this helps. ( maybe check the outputs in the Maschine preferences tab?

The message in the first post only means that you cannot control the volume of attached audio interface (in that case Maschine) via Mac keyboard volume up/down buttons. The interface should still work and the volume needs to be regulated via the interface (i.e. via its volume knob).

Most professional audio interfaces won’t let Mac to control their volume level, mostly because they have analog volume control (post DAC). Mac USB volume control (if implemented by interface manufacturer) is pre-DAC, which results in bit reduction of digital signal, before it reaches the interface’s DAC.

    hi,

I have no issues at all but since this was still open I tought it was not solved yet.

If my post makes it confusing feel free to remove it from here.

If his issue is with the Maschine outputs not working I tought it might be because of the audio preferences in the Maschine software. But Maybe I misunderstood his problem.

No worries! I'm the one who misunderstood. Thanks for chiming in and helping out!
