    Just try to use as little products from suspicious companies as possible. NI is a very suspicious company, every product but Kontakt and perhaps Maschine will likely be dead in a comparatively short while.

    Absynth should be brought completely back into the hands that it never should've left in the first place, namely in Mr. Clevinger's.

    It's a shame these EOL apps couldn't be placed in an EOL wrapper, so that only the wrapper would need to be OS-maintained to kee evrything within working. I'm thinking something like ensembles do within Reaktor. As someone with no programming experience, I have no idea whether something like this is possible, but just thinking out loud.

    Alternatively, would it not be possible to resample the presets and make available as either an ensemble within Reaktor or a Kontakt instrument (Legal permission granted by NI, of course)? It wouldn't be the perfect solution, but at least we could keep the sound of the thing alive.

    I think you kind of answered yourself there.

    This is more complicated than just having a "wrapper" which supposedly works for all plugins. The GUI tech alone is very different among the different plugins and plugin developers.

    I think this is the problem with this whole thread: People thinking there are easy solutions to difficult problems. And, that you just have to snap your finger, and everything is possible. Like, developing a niche product forever.

    when, on a whim i wanted to try reason 1.0, i went on archive.org and who did i find had uploaded almost every early version of reason. of course it was propellerhead themselves.

    why cant NI be like this about older products like absynth they no longer support 😪

    More importantly, were you able to download and install it, and did it work properly?

    To clarify, I don't think it's something that would be trivially simple and nor do I think that such a thing would/should instantly work with anything that was put inside it. But with KK, Kontakt, Reaktor and Maschine, NI is no stranger to getting plugins to work inside of hosts/wrappers ;)

    And people thinking that the code, IP, business agreements, copyrights and everything else that went into Absynth simply do not apply due to "retirement" and that NI can just wave their hand and all will be set free. (wrappers or otherwise)

    It is clear from the circa 2022 Clevinger video that this specific project has a unique (and most likely restricted) legal back story - one that no one here has any idea about.

    I say enjoy let's enjoy it for what it is - while we still have it. That could end permanently without warning or explanation.

    Well, there are easy solutions to protected SW that cannot be authorised because of "problem" on developer's side…..

    Either remove copy protection, or provide universal key. ;-)

    That means to do, what NI has promissed to do in older EULAs.

    No way to escape from it by making it EOL and so on. Because before proclaiming it EOL NI should have either release copyprotection free installations of SW or issue universal key that allows to work that SW on any HW and supported OSes.

    My understanding is that NI does not own this product (or it's IP) outright.

    So doubtful they are able to make arbitrary decisions like releasing universal keys etc.

    Well, they promised it in EULA, if they will not be able to authorise it. So…. It is not possible to authorise it on Win7 already. OK, it is not great deal for most people, but still… NI may also provide offline authorisation….

    And even thought it is not NI SW, they should have solution somehow covered in contract with author. If they do not have, it is problem of NI, not problem of NI customers.
