I don't think the fact users are still using Komplete Kontrol 2.9 and the MK2 keyboards, is really saying anything good for NI. If anything it shows something's internally wrong,if previous customers who would normally be loyal to upgrade are not and if the newer hardware is not doing better in sales than the previous versions. ( I assume this is the case, but don't have the actual numbers).
I just know from these forums, kvr, gearspace as well as a few others the MK2 keyboards and 2.9 seems to have the most support.
I hope NI finally stops these delays, and starts getting some more feature rich updates and releases out. If anything, at least bring back the features that you took out.

“If anything it shows something's internally wrong,if previous customers who would normally be loyal to upgrade are not and if the newer hardware is not doing better in sales than the previous versions”
Or existing customers like what they have and are comfortable. There is no requirement to upgrade anything if what you have is doing it for you.
This does not mean I am not loyal nor does it mean the new is better than the old.
Does every loyal guitar player get rid of the favorite Strat just because Fender launches the 2025 lineup?VP

I guess we will know in about 10 hours depending where you live.. I believe the promotion they let akai have the past few days will hype their announcement tomorrow at namm if they are there

@Vocalpoint,
I think you’re missing the point here, many of us upgraded thinking the features we had in 2.9 would be in v3 ! If users are still using 2.9 that means there’s a reason for it. Do you understand what I’m trying to say now ?
I completely understand why you’re on 2.9 as well as many others. You’ve made a decision to stay on the older hardware and software that works better than the newer and should be improved v3, and newer hardware.
My point is that’s NOT a good sign for NI if people would rather stay on the older hardware and software because the newer software is still till this date not working as good as the older software.
That’s the point I’m trying to point out. There’s no glory for NI in users not upgrading to their newer hardware and software. If anything it shows they’ve done nothing to earn your money.
There’s no reason to believe that the newer software or hardware is better when it can’t even maintain the features and functionality that we had in 2.9 , but then lost in the upgrade. Again you’re not in our shoes, I get it !! What about us though ? We would like the features that worked before.0 -
For what it’s worth, we just want Komplete Kontrol to do everything 2.9 does in v 3x. I don’t see how anyone could think this is unreasonable.

I am not disagreeing with that.
"Many of us upgraded thinking the features we had in 2.9 would be in v3 ! If users are still using 2.9 that means there’s a reason for it. Do you understand what I’m trying to say now?"
But do you understand the sheer lack of logic in upgrading by merely "thinking" that KK 3.x would have feature parity with KK v2.9.6. It either does - or it does not.
I do not understand how anyone would pull the trigger on a MKIII and KKv3 the day it came out or a week later or a month later or three months later and only then suddenly "discover" that KKv3 was miles behind KK 2.9.6. And then be upset about it.
It has been VERY common knowledge that KK v3.x has been dragging behind KK v2.9.6 since Day 1.
But none of this changes that basic fact that a wise consumer should know when the value is there for them and when it is not.
Pretty sure that many thousands have upgraded to a MKIII/KKv3 combo - and remain thrilled about it and never come here to the forums. Others - not so much.
Right now - I have a product combo that really works (S61MKII + KKv2.9.6). If/when the next gen (MKIII + KKv3) shows me that it is worthy of besting my current combo - I might consider making a move.
But unlike you - I am good to wait and there is no reason whatsoever to rush into any upgrade. If/when KKv3 gets good - it will be real easy to tell.

i upgraded to mk3 as i wanted the polytouch and onboard play assist. i hate the v3 software, i want to return to v2.9 but the new keyboard does not work with it. im pretty disappointed with ni for trying to fix something that wasnt broke. at least mk3 keyboards connect directly to kontakt. rthis is what i hope for noew, direct connection with all of their software so there is no need for komplete kontrol v3

I maybe made the point ineloquently - but the intent is not to let more hardware "talk NKS" and leave NKS as is. With significantly more NKS eligible users comes even more impetus to continue to improve NKS in general.

@Vocalpoint , That’s such a common basic way to beat up the customers for the companies unwillingness to fix the issues, but nevertheless yes you’re correct, and side with the companies logic. In my world, we call guys like you “ company men “ right so yes we should have somehow checked by not having the hardware and or software installed to test or know NI would destroy the previous workflow. In my case for example my biggest issue is ( pinning the browser ) yet somehow i was supposed to know that the software would work differently from the hardwares inability to do the same thing. I didn’t know and wouldn’t know UNTIL I owned the hardware !
It’s our fault we should have known to NOT upgrade until we broke out the manual vs just assuming NI wouldn’t break functionality. Oh wait the manual for the software doesn’t mention the hardwares inability, but wait it’s still my fault. Right !
@NativeInstruments , do you see what you’ve done here ? Does it actually resonate with you? You take a workflow that worked and destroyed it, over a year later, we still don’t have the software/hardware working as it once did in 2.9. This is a COMPLETE MESS !
Yeah it’s our fault though !1 -
"That’s such a common basic way to beat up the customers for the companies unwillingness to fix the issues, but nevertheless yes you’re correct, and side with the companies logic."
How is being a smart shopper/consumer/ in anyway related to being a "company man"?
RE: "side with the companies logic?"
For the record - if you look around here carefully - you will see that I was one of the earliest reports of how lacklustre KK v3 was/is. No love lost there and I am in no way giving NI a pass on this. I won't use KKv3 for many reasons - but the biggest is the lack of feature parity with KK v2.9.6
Regardless no one is looking to beat you up. If you feel like you got burned because you upgraded without doing any homework is - unfortunately - on you.
"I didn’t know and wouldn’t know UNTIL I owned the hardware"
If you didn't like your hardware product or could not determine that KKv3 is not what you want it to be (within the usual normal return period) - why didn't you just return it ? That's what most people will do when a product does not do what they want it to do.
Please - don't make it sound like someone tried to take advantage of you. Like anyone else in here (or anywhere) - you had plenty of time to determine if this product combo was right for you.
Finally - no one forced you to upgrade. That was your call and yours alone.

Point out something you said.. if you didn't like the product you purchased why didn't you return it..
I will tell you why because NI kept saying coming soon this will be fixed and look over a year later it's not..

I'd like to point out this is a thread intended to discuss Direct Connection.
Direct Connection today is available with Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol.
We have also announced that we're opening NKS to 3rd party hardware manufacturers.
Many of those first implementations may resemble something more akin to the Kontrol A and M series experience, given the capabilities of their hardware.
It is also possible that more capable hardware comes to market that begins to do far deeper and greater things.
And the original question was: when is Direct Connection coming to other products (e.g. Massive or whatever else)?
The answer today is: there are no plans we can discuss publicly, but that with a massively increased NKS install base, there will be an ever greater argument for it to exist in other products.
Perhaps we could return this thread to discussing the above. It has devolved into a separate discussion about Komplete Kontrol 2 vs 3, and that's been talked about at length before. Maybe take that discussion to the prior threads about it, or start a new one, rather than take this one off topic? Thanks!

I agree 100% with you on that.
All I can say is - if you jump into an upgrade for anything - based on assumption or hope or (what you believe) is a "promise" that you will get this or that "later" - you need to be prepared to accept the frustration and possible disappointment that can result from that.
