Traktor Pro 4 gain staging issue

why is the main/master going into red when playing a wav file that has a true peak of -0.24 dBFS?

Autogain is off ✅

Headroom is set to 0 ✅

Limiter is off ✅

This bothered me too. Now I set the master to 6db.

I’ve been doing the same (adding headroom, and not pushing the limiter as much), but I want more control over the gain structure and the ability to configure the headroom and Ozone limiter to better suit my DJ sets. The fact that the main output is overloading for no apparent reason is concerning. That’s something that needs to be addressed properly, rather than just slapping a limiter on the main output as a quick fix.

Why are there no dB numbers on a supposedly pro bit of software so we know what the meters are actually saying instead of just being there to provide a bit of eye candy?

What's your mixing mode? External or internal?

I have this in external mode. It will clip if left untouched.

What EQ you are using? The default one (Z ISO) has this thing:

The Z ISO EQ does affect the phase of the audio signal even in middle position. However, this is not audible in practical use. It is a characteristic of all full-kill isolator EQs in DJ applications.

Maybe this is the reason why it is a good practice to add at least minium headroom to the master mix?

Update to the EQ type thing.

Looks like the "Z ISO" EQ DOES AFFECT the sound. That's there from these db comes. Just load the track into the Traktor, remove the headroom and it will clip! But if you change the EQ to another one, there will be no clipping. So this is an EQ characteristic. With a full-kill isolator you need to add headroom if You don't want the clipped final results.

BTW, the analog mixers EQ's makes some things even worse. For example there will be low end stereo separation at about 52Hz which can be removed only in post or with a specific equipment. 😅 But this is a different topic.

Use the headroom setting guys, it's there for a reason.
