Configure the X1 Mk3 as Stem Controller

After seeing how stems are being controlled through the Z1 mk2 it makes total sense to be able to use the X1 to do the same thing, especially as it has the kill buttons alongside each of the dial controls. I was thinking about having a go at configuring this, but before I start I thought I'd ask two questions:
1) Has anybody already done this?
2) Are there any guides out there as to how to do this sort of custom mapping?

Have you already used the search function?
You must read the topics, I found a lot of good posts here about creating custom mappings.

If you are inexperienced, I would recommend small projects to start with.
so that you can better learn how to use the mapping tool in the Traktor

Last time I checked, the soft takeover was not working on X1 Mk3. Making it inpracticle to switch between the modes.

Hopefully they fixed it. Wouldn't bet they did.

Very good video. I'm also working on a stems overlay, but via qml code. There is a beta version in my last post of the thread linked below. The problem with the colour override persists though, as i didn't want to meddle with the override code. Merry christmas.

Hello,

Following the above video I can get the stem control working.

However when I try to change the colours for the stems (assigning them to the FX slots), if I press SHIFT when in the mixer screen, it turns the KILL SWITCHES the new updated colour…? Even once the shift button is released the kill switches still stay as the new colour. They only go back to the original blue once I cycle through the pages.

Can anyone tell me why this might be please?

For the qml code, which contain the conditions under which the original LED output is triggered, nothing has changed when you release the shift button. The LED lights only ever get updated when you change those conditions, like when you change the overlay cycle position.

You would need to change the underlying qml code, which is also the only way to extract the actual stem colour information from the audio file. Stems not created by Traktor can and will have different colours (and names).

Thanks for your reply. I am very new to this so I am starting slowly! Haven't got a clue about the QML side of things tbh 😆

With reference to Stevan's comment above, does anyone know anymore about the soft take over issue when mapping the X1 MK3?

It seems to be a huge limitation without that functionality…..!!

Soft Takeover for knobs was retro-bungled back in the late Traktor Pro 2 era for NI hardware (the F1 was the first with this bug) and has carried over to all newer equipment. Faders of NI gear and knobs on non-NI gear are not affected.

Nothing you can do, except implement this sort of functionality via the qml files.

If you are interested, the latest X1Mk3 Community Performance Mod features Stem controls done with qml, complete with easy access via the Mixer Overlay and screen feedback. Just make sure to read the installation instructions and the function overview carefully.
