Using Komplete Kontrols Mod Wheels & Touch Strip with Hardware synths
Hi all,
Hope you are well.
Really need your help please.
I have a Komplete Kontrol S61 MK2 connected to Ableton 11. I use this keyboard as my mine keyboard. I use it with Komplete and I also use it as my midi keyboard for my hardwre Synths.
The trouble i have and have been having for ages is I am not able to use the Mod wheels or the touch strip on my Hardware synths. I have set up templates in the software and I can cycle through them on the Komplet Kontrol hardware and it works amazingly apart from not being able to use the mod wheels or tough strip. The only thing I can use is the tough strip but I can only set that to one of my synths at a time in the software.
I feel like i am going insane here haha, there must be a way that i can just assign the mod wheels and touch strips to my hardware templates . Because if not that just seems crazy, and i might have to buy another midi keyboard so i can have access to mod wheels. And i really don't want to do that.
I have reached out to NI support, but they just stop responding to me and havent been any help.
Please help me, i'll be so upset if I can't use the mod wheels /touch strip on my hardware.
Thanks for any help.
Dave

Unfortunately the modwheel can only emit on MIDI channel 1 and MIDI CC1, there is no way to change that. I imagine if you set one of yuour hardware synths to channel 1 the modwheel will work.
You can assign a different MIDI channel to the touch strip but it applies for all templates, it's not possible to change the assignment per template.
Unfortunately there won't be any updates in the future addressing these limitations.
Our apologies for your conversation having ended. The agent you were dealing with is no longer with us and his tickets should have been re-assigned, I don't know what happened but that didn't happen. Really sorry about that.

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the detailed reply / answer. :)
Question: Am i the only one that thinks it's absolutely crazy that NI doesn't allow you to use the mod wheels and touch strip when using hardware with the Komplete midi keyboard?
If I want to use the mod wheels I will have to buy a new midi keyboard? Why have they done that and locked us out of being able to use them on our own hardware synths, i just don't get why?
Am i missing something? Surely they want people to buy their midi keyboard to use it for everything, like Kontact and our own hardware synths? Or is it an error and it was overlooked in R&D.
Do some people not care about using mod wheels with their synths???
Thanks

Well, you can still use the modwheel on an external synth if it is set to MIDI channel 1 but yes, i see what you mean, not ideal if you have multiple synths or MIDI devices. I can't really say what happened, yes, probably an oversight and a focus on NI stuff versus standard MIDI. It's possible on the MK3 keyboards to assign those and choose whatever MIDI channel but it's a total new architecture.
