No Midi Mapping for S4 MK3 - will this be fixed?

I upgraded a little while ago from the S4 MK2 to the S4 MK3 and have now lost the ability to midi map the controller with one of my favourite pieces of software.

I trust you're away of this NI - is this fixable? Will this be fixed?

It is certaintly disappointing to upgrade and lose a feature such as this ability. It seems strange when the S4 MK2 can do it, and the S2 MK3 - but not the S4 MK3

I doubt they will add it. The traktor team just don't have much resources available.

Mixxx and virtual DJ support the s4 mk3, besides traktor.

What is your favorite software you want to use it with?

They said it is impossible to add due to complexity of the controller. MIDI Mode is not to be expected for S4 Mk3, and also any developement stopped 4-5 years ago for the S4 Mk3.

There’s a mapping trick… I use it so I can repurpose some knobs and buttons I don’t use to send out midi so as to control Ableton.

You map one physical knob to control a functionality of Traktor you won’t use. In my case, I decided to sacrifice the ability to use deck D as a Remix/Stem Deck. So you map that knob to control one of the Deck D remix deck lane Volume. Then you make a MIDI mapping layer, and you assign that Remix Deck lane Volume output to a MIDI CC out.

Presto! When you turn that knob it now outputs MIDI. This is of course very limited, you still need to have Traktor running to translate that knob turn into MIDI, and you need to sacrifice knobs or buttons you don’t need on the S4. But if you just want a few knobs to control something in MIDI instead of doing their initial job, it works great!

In this case, I’m still able to use Deck D normally for playing tracks or as a live input. The remix deck functions are always available and responsive no matter what is the type of deck you selected, and won’t impact other functions.

Ahah. Well, it works very well for me and my use case, which is controlling a few parameters of some plugins in Ableton, but admittedly it’s not for the faint of heart!

For sure it is cool workaround - I do the same with global midi knobs and buttons. It canot be confused with the proper MIDI mode.

I would buy an S4 mk3 if it was midi mappable, but without it no way

I mix sets from traktor, however dj pro 2 is what ive used in the past to dj a wedding, more importantly to be able to quickly and easily mix music straight from spotify due to their connectivity

its amazing for throwing together ideas on the fly
