Korg Wavestation VST doesn't store program selection in KK

Korg wavestation VST Version: V2.4.2 (apple silicon)
Mac Studio m1 / macOS 14.5

If you add the VST directly to a track (either Ableton or Logic) it stores the selected program fine with the project. If you close & reopen the project it restores the correct program correctly.

However if you add the VST into KK and do the same, it doesn't reload the correct program after closing & reopening the project. Same issue with both Ableton & Logic.

Odd that all the other Korg collection VSTs seem to work fine.

Any ideas?

    What version of KK are you using (V2 or V3)?

    What happens to the plugins preset when you reload, does it load up the default sound?

    Likely it's an issue in how KK stores and recalls the plugin state for the plugin

    EDIT: After investigating more, looks like KK saves the Bank, but not the preset.

    Hardware: S49 Mk2, Software: KK 3.2.1. (With VST3 format)

    So in this example, I set the preset to 'RAM2 / Preset 9: 21st Century' and saved the file.

    When I reload the project, the track loads back up with the KK VST (and Wavestation correctly in KK).
    The S49 keyboard shows the correct saved preset (21st century), but the software shows the default RAM2 preset: 'pharoahs jig'. When I play the keyboard, it's indeed 'pharaohs jig' that sounds, not the one saved in the file/displayed on the S49.

    If I do the same thing with a preset from another bank e.g. ROM 6, again it restores the bank (ROM 6), but sets the preset back to the first one.

    [btw im using https://freelancesoundlabs.com/nks but I have the same issue regardless of whether I just load the VST directly via the KK plugin, or use the NKS preset]

    Just noting a similar issue in Maschine 2 - again, it saves the bank but not the preset (but in Maschine when you restore the project it resets to preset 21 in the selected bank, rather than preset 0).

    So on Windows I have just done a test in Maschine and it is fine for me:

    Example:

    • In Maschine I load Wavestate using an NKS preset, specifically I load preset "E.Pianostate"
    • I then save the Maschine project and close machine completely
    • Relaunch Maschine then open the project I just saved
    • Instance of Wavestate is loaded with the same preset being loaded and the same sound.

    So on Windows this works in Machine.

    Ableton Live, I have an issue which is common with many plugins, was reported in detail over 2 years ago to NI and in the beta program and another example of how useless NI are with user reported issues and feedback and how terrible their development is…

    Loading Wavestate in KK within Ableton on Windows I get the all too common issue where the plugin GUI does not even show. This is a KK issue specifically and happens in Live on Windows (mac I believe is fine):

    The actual preset sound loads fine and the sound can be heard, the plugin can thankfully be controlled via KK but the GUI is not shown.

    Saving this project and reloading again as above, the actual preset sound is maintained fine and loads up as it was saved. Automation recording is also recalled and works just fine even without the plugin GUI. Of course loading Wavestate direct on a track is also all fine and the GUI displays as normal.

    KK is really becoming more and more useless if you use Ableton Live like I do. I make NKS libraries but I don't even bother using it anymore and have kind of given up on KK at this point. Useless!

    Sorry - just realised you said "Wavestate" not "Wavestation". It's the Wavestation that has the issue for me - I don't have wavestate, but I haven't noticed any issue with the other Korg plugins I have (Odyssey, Triton, Monopoly, Polysix).

    Ah, sorry I assumed it was Wavestate because Wavestation has been out and in use for a decade already and no such issue has ever been reported and i've used it several times myself, tho be it not on mac and def not using KK V3 but if there was an issue I would have heard of it before now

    I can replicate this on M1 Max - just in Wavestation so maybe the bug is with that?

    Possibly - but it works fine for me if you just put the VST directly into a track (in Ableton or Logic). It's only via KK that it seems to lose the preset.

    I've raised a tech support ticket with Korg - will see what they say.
