How to avoid having to go through Set-up Wizard again on Traktor Kontrol S4 &lose all data settings?

Hi, I use to have my OS set-up to 12.7.4 version on my MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) Apple M1 Max 64 GB and I had my Traktor Kontrol S4 MK 3 working perfectly well.

One day, I was prompted to update my OS to the latest Monterey 12.7.5 OS and I did it.

From that moment, I fired up my Traktor Kontrol S4 MK3 to work and was prompted to go through the Set-up wizard again!

From what I can recall, I don't think that there was any option to cancel/avoid going through this procedure! The "cancel" button was all greyed out and not usable!

Unfortunately I had to go through the set-up wizard procedure again. Because of this, I lost 2 months of hard work, loosing all my playlists and cue points data.

I tried in vain to retrieve all my data, but didn't manage to!

Now, I have reinstalled everything for Traktor to work again on the latest Monterey 12.7.5 OS, but I am really scared of loosing all my data again! How can I avoid loosing all my work again?

Are they any backups of this type of data that I can retrieve if all goes wrong again?

I thought that there were backups of data, but when I tried to reinstall them, they all seemed greyed out and inaccessible.

Can someone advise me about this here please?

Best,

Colin

Hi, a simple solution to avoid this issue is to back up the Traktor documents folder which contains all the collection data and Traktor preferences (Documents/Native Instruments/Traktor 3.X.X/) before the update.

I usually do this before doing a clean install of Windows, as soon as I install Traktor I just replace the new empty Traktor documents folder with the old one I have backed-up with all my collection data and Traktor settings.

(I obviously back up my songs collection time to time, just to be safe)

    Hope this helps you! :)

I don't know what the OS update did, but traktor keeps backups! All the data might still be there. Take a look at the directory startiel provided. Every time you close traktor a backup will be saved.

If there are no in the Documents folder from before the OS update, I would say Apple did something weird.

The setup wizard will not delete anything, it was probably the results and not the reason for the missing data.

Also iCloud has been known to mess with the collection file. Might be worth disabling that.

Hi Lord Carlos, thanks for your comment.

Can you tell me what specific file I would have to look for in the Traktor 3.X.X folder?

There are quite a few folders and files in there. I am not sure what I'm looking for.

if you have remix sets and samples, I think you also have to backup the samples folder
