Upgraded to Kontakt 7 but still have Kontakt 6
Hello everyone. I’m using Ableton as my DAW. I installed updates on a few products this morning. After the install was complete I opened up my DAW, clicked on KONTAKT and attempted to open the updated plugin only to get an error message saying my version of KONTAKT was old.
At the top right of KONTAKT it said new version KONKAKT 7 available so I clicked on the link, it took me to the NI website and I bought the upgrade that was available for me.
i went through the motion of installing, opened up my daw and I still have the same KONTAKT version which says it’s 6.
i will note when I open my Native Instruments it shows KONTAKT and KONTAKT 7. I don’t know the difference between the two but the one I want to update just says KONTAKT.
Can anyone guide me in the right direction? I’m starting to think I bought something I already have.

Yep Kontakt 6 and Kontakt 7 are two separate products, so after upgrading to Kontakt 7, it won't replace Kontakt 6. I see you've been in touch with our support team already. If you want to continue using Kontakt 6, you'll need to downgrade the libraries so they stay compatible with Kontakt 6.

Kontakt (without any number) is version 6.
For all the other problems, open a ticket with support. You bought from them Kontakt 7 after they had you updating libraries that were perfectly working on 6, they will surely help you

How on earth do we downgrade libraries? Do we have to uninstall everything and go back in time? I just upgraded from Komplete Ultimate 12 to 14 and now I can't load any NI libraries in Kontakt 6 or 5 related projects. They get stuck endlessly "loading." I'm worried I waon't be able to recover all the patches and edits (such as custom Elec Sunburst pattern sets)? I've got hundreds of tunes I have to go through now. I can't even use 3rd party libraries in the same instance of Kontakt 5/6. You guys have some seriously hosed programmers, man. Unbelievable. I've already got to deal with your sunsetting my Komplete S Mk1 board.

Go here and start downloading…
In the smallest of defense to NI - within the Release Notes for every single library starting in Sept 2023 - it was clearly stated that IF you decide to proceed with any update to any library - Kontakt 7.6.1 would be the minimum required version.
Won't speculate whether you read release notes or not - but by Sept 2023 - Kontakt 5 and 6 had been retired a long time. Kontakt 7 had been out for a full year by the time these changes came down.
It's not like it was a surprise or anything.
But I do agree - NI handled this poorly and continues to handle it poorly as users are still getting wound up in the nonsense a full 9 months later.

Thanks for the links. I was actually aware of issues related to the 7 upgrade. Having owned it for almost a year, occasionally using it, sometimes concurrently within projects containing Kontakt 5/6, albeit with KU12 libraries, and as it never caused those K5/6 instances to not load, in my zeal to use my expiring $50 coupon to save big on the KU14 upgrade, I forged ahead like a bull in a china shop wanting the shiny new thing, with a false sense of security. Given this is an NI package, I should have proceeded with MUCH more caution, but that's water under the bridge. NI + Haste = Frustration. Hopefully, this list of affected libraries is comprehensive, because there is only a handful that I actually use that need downgrading to hopefully allow me to save my work.
Anyway, thanks again. Best regards.

Everything that was updated (to my knowledge) is on that link list. Simply uninstall the "newest" (K7) version and reinstall the prior one.
Do remember that if you are intent on staying with K5/K6 - you can never again update these libraries via Native Access - as all that will do is put you right back in this mess. Take care if you see that Update All button taunting you in there :)

Yeah, in that process as we speak. My intent is to eventually move forward with K7 and KU14. Proceeding with great caution and making project backups while saving snapshots til I'm blue in the face. Testing and verifying.
