Managing Samples with new Komplete Kontrol interface
Hey evryone,
I've watched this great tutorial:
https:// youtu.be/Zu2eQrkwrMI?t=4005
Now I wanted to import some of my samples and organize them. However, there seems to be no way to change the sample type from one shot to loop in the new interface.
What is more, when I change the tags on some of my samples the "Brand" info of a sample is updated to "Native Instruments" and this results in my samples becoming disorganized.
So if I import a sample pack called "my samples" and change the tags on one sample in this pack and hit "apply", then I will have 2 folders called "my samples" in my user sample location: the first one with a blank brand info tag and the second one with a brand tag of "Native Instruments".
What's even more annoying is that Komplete Kontrol seems to alter the sample file itself when doing this. So the only way to reverse the fact that some samples have "Native Instruments" as their brand is to replace the sample.
All of this seems really strange and unintuitive. Am I missing something or does the new GIU just not allow people to organize their samples anymore?

OK just out of curiosity, because as I said personally I don't really see KK as a viable sample manager, but I wanted to see how one might go about changing sample type from One shot to loop and actually it is pretty easy. Here is an example of an imported sample bank of one shots that I have temporarily changed one sample to a loop just to show how - all without touching the vendor, author etc fields
- Select your sample or samples (you can multi select them)
- Click the i in a circle
- Click the pencil in a circle (yes I know it is stupidly convoluted having to click through all these things)
- From the content type field change one shot to loop or visa versa
- Click 'Apply'

Also, excuse the typos everyone. There seems to be no way to edit my post as far as I can see. At least I didn't find an "edit" button anywhere.

Yeah, get use to all that. KK is now rather unintuitive compared to how it was. What is even worse is you can no longer drag samples from the browser into your DAW, something that WAS possible like many other things in the previous version. Seems the new dev team is not as switched on in regards to functionality, only what looks pretty.
Also, edit is hidden in this set of dots for your post:

Ok, so its not me, it just doesn't work anymore. But the fact that Komplete Kontrol makes changes to my sample files is very annoying. This definitely should not happen.
Haven't tried dragging and dropping samples yet. Also very annoying that this won't work.
The edit button does not appear for me when I click on the 3 dots.

Did the old interface do much better? Not sure tbh, I have always found KK to be pretty poor at managing user samples - it's Ok at showing what you have from NI and that's about it. The one compensation for me was being able to drag samples from KK into loaded sampler/granular plugins and yes, you can't even do that in KK3. But in terms of actually managing samples I use Sononym, KK just isn't cut out for managing user samples and never has been in my opinion, the most you can do is import them but now that drag and drop has been removed I fail to see any point of even having samples in KK at the moment.

Lots of things some of us fail to see the point of with KK at the moment but that's a whole other topic…
Personally I also don't use samples in KK for the same reason, pointless, I just use the browser in Ableton when I need music samples and I use a program called BaseHead for managing files with detailed metadata which supports DnD or direct spotting into projects if using Pro Tools / Cubase with project camplerate conversion and all the stuff you would likely want.
However, I know a lot of people that use KK for basic searching of loops and samples and just DnD into a project from there. Hardly worth using KK to actually load samples but as a (very) basic browser it can work. Never bothered to even try and tag files tho.
The edit button does not appear for me when I click on the 3 dots.
Prob something to do with being a new user, there are limitations on what new users can do on the boards until they have a certain post count so probably editing ones own posts is another of those limitations. Should look like this:

Tagging a few more of our best people for idea generation! 😉

Can anybody think of a way to do what the OP is looking for? I'm at a loss, but would like to know if anybody else has come up with a way, because I know I'd benefit from it too.
Thanks in advance!

Oh wow, thanks! I probably should have jumped on mine to see if I could do that; it just didn't occur to me.
