Guitar Rig 7 + MIDI/FCB-1010 - Switch Needs to be clicked twice
Hello,
I've looked through the forums here and I can't find a suitable answer for this problem.
I have a Behringer FCB 1010 set up to control the Macros in Guitar Rig 7.
Everything works fine, but some macro buttons need to be clicked twice in order to activate, but only the first time. After the first time for a given patch, it works perfectly. Not only that, but not every macro does this. Only some, and it seems to be random.
Does anyone have any advice about this? It's a real pain when playing a live show to have to hit a footswitch twice every time I change patches.
Thanks,
Brent

Just to add here: I used the exact same FCB1010 in Guitar Rig 5 the same way, without this issue. It only popped up when I upgraded to GR 7.

I use the same setup, but have no problems.
Can you give me a specific example? Or does the error occur randomly for you?0 -
I have a patch with a Gain Boost component. When I go to turn it on, the first press of the switch on the FCB does nothing. Second press turns it on, then it goes off and on fine after that.

Hi @Brent Scott
So it is always the first command after switching on the FCB1010? That would be normal. This initiates the selected bank in the FCB1010.
I look forward to your feedback.

Not always the first command. Sometimes it just works. I reprogrammed the macro switch, and it worked properly, but then later it seemed to lapse back into needing 2 clicks.
I've been using the exact same pedal, same configuration with Guitar Rig 3 and 5. I went back to 5 again last weekend, same computer, same pedal, no double-switching issues. Works perfectly in GR5.
There seem to be some bugs with Macros. I can't name them for example. I rename a macro and save the preset, but when I go back to it from another, it still says "On/off". Bit of a pain for live performance. I need to remember the numbers I use for every patch, because I can't tell what some of the switches do. (Note: Some of them DID take a renaming, some didn't)0 -
I'm just bumping this. I still haven't figured out the issue.

This is what i send from my FCB1010 to GR. But i think this it not your problem.

Maybe check what happens on MIDI level via this tool:
I suppose there is a difference in behaviour between GR5 and GR7.1 -
Yes, there is a definite difference in behaviour with GR 5 and GR 7. I haven't tried with GR6, because I never used that one with my live rig. I needed the looper which wasn't there in 6.
I've been using GR7 live, using a different patch per song, but at the beginning of each song I need to hit every switch I'm going to use to ensure it will work when needed. A major pain. I'll check out the tool you linked when I have it set up again next week.1 -
on your FCB1010
if the midi trigger is set to a CC number…. change it to a midi note instead
i suspect what is occurring is when you are using a CC number it is operating as toggle button, the issue may well be that GR7 is expecting a gate button as opposed to a toggle button
by swapping the CC out and using a note value… it may correct the issue you are having….
as a midi note acts as a gate button… ie. note considered on until you take your foot off the pedal, at which point a note-off is sent
the FCB1010 may be inclined to operate as a toggle when a CC is used.. ie the switch is on when you press down on the pedal and remain on after you take your foot off the pedal….
knowing which of the midi button type GR7 is expecting… is done by trial and error

Bi-directional MIDI-communication is a issue. Rig Kontrol 3 mapped the status of the preset to the buttons (leds) on the controller, but for non-NI controllers this a big issue. I asked Xsonic for a fix for the Airstep MIDI controller, but they point to NI for a solution. Not sure if this is on the Guitar Rig radar, would make sense if there was a smooth integration possible, definitely for Live setups. @Eddie_NI , can you elaborate on this topic? Thx, Wouter

Try changing the midi event to toggle
