Kontrol 2024 outlook: what was, what now, what next?

I occasionally use play assist, but I'd say I'm more like 80% just playing without assistance. I do see it as a very beneficial tool on things like a Fender Rhodes keyboard as it fits the style better. A lot of the libraries I use have more specific "helper" presets that better fit the style and function of the instrument.
As far as user feedback, that's a pretty hard thing to gauge given what's on this forum is a very small sample size of the overall user base and we don't see any of the data gleaned from things like market focus groups which may indicate an overall lower interest in a feature than what might be represented by a limited number of very vocal members of this forum.
One example which surprised me was the emphasis on getting templates working on the MK3 since I've never been a big user of them. But apparently a lot of people do use them extensively so I might pay more attention to them when they become available.

Quite honestly in my experience over most of my career there were more problems with overstaffing than understaffing, which is more what @Matthew_NI described as happening in which inter-team communications and priorities were getting jumbled causing delays and misdirection. It's kind of like the old saying we used to have in our development teams that you can't get a baby in 4 1/2 months by getting two women pregnant.

I bought mine on 10th January for £1069

I think I have been living under a rock midi Templates for what? Is that all we want..
What about faster loading times on launch.. better searching better response bug fixes. What are these templates we are talking about 😆.. so we are going to wait until 2025 after namm when they launch a new controller..

@Matthew_NI , since you guys are still working on MIDI templates and such, is it safe to assume no work has yet been done on accessibility for the MK3 line? Is it being pushed back even further in the cue? It's one thing to be waiting for missing features on a product, but it's a whole different thing to not be able to use the thing… :) Have a few friends who are also waiting on accessibility implementation to make their purchase, but now with Ableton's recent work on Live 12 accessibility, the Push controllers are starting to get the attention of visually impaired users.

how you now have to click the encoder left/right to select a track, which is very clunky instead of being able to use the top buttons for direct track select for instance
3 -
OK, that would be very useful ergonomically. Great idea 👍
I would also like the DAW button to be a switch: pressed again, it should take the keyboard back to where it was before being pressed = to MIDI, plugin or browser screen of currently selected track.

Yes, that is really weird.. I don't understand why they didn't keep the dedicated Mute and Solo Buttons. It's not like they're in desperate need of space…
6 -
Yeah but afaik NI also collects usage data within their software, so it's safe to assume they know what parts of their software are used by how many people. But the intention behind the way people use things is harder to quantify.

As it is now, that should be configurable. Either Mutes default and Solos with shift or vice versa.

I believe that's a voluntary option the user can configure. I know I have mine turned off.

We covered Mute Solo pretty extensively in October's AMA.
Users wanted the ability to quickly mute and solo multiple tracks at once, and so that's what we built.
Users tended to select tracks from their DAW, using the mouse, especially when jumping around larger sessions.

I like it as it is = mutes and solos on buttons. I change tracks with keys on keyboard or with trackpad myself. All I want would be the choice of which function should be the default one and which should be accessible with Shift button. To be able to choose in Settings if Solo is the default or Mute is the default and then the other one would be available with Shift button.
2 -
Agreed! And SOLO in place is the most used function rather than MUTE so at least that should be the default.
