Kontakt 7 not working with Native Access or MIDI
So far, of all the software I have ever used in my entire life, Kontakt 7 is the most infuriating thing I have ever dealt with.
I recently got a new laptop, so I decided to install Native Access and Kontakt 7 on this pc. I installed both of them and painstakingly located every NI instrument on my external hard drive so that Kontakt 7 can use them.
After locating all the instruments, Kontakt 7 still could not see them, at least in the library view.
No tiles show.
Only a tile named "Native Instruments" (probably named after the folder in my hard drive that stores all the instruments)
Because of this, my S88 Mk3 MIDI does not work properly with any of the instruments.
I've tried many roundabout and manual ways to try and get the tiles and instrument connection to work properly by manipulating files (the methods suggested from NI manuals and forums) all to no avail.
After wasting over 10 hours of my time on this, I eventually found out that updating or reinstalling individual instruments gave Kontakt proper access to those instruments. I therefore settled on reinstalling all the instruments on the external hard drive.
That took 3 days to do.
However, the files were installed on my laptop's SSD instead of the external hard drive by mistake. This is because, even though the Download Location in Native Access was set to the external hard drive, the Content Location was set to the local SSD (btw why does the Content Location destination decide where software is to be downloaded instead of the Download Location?)
I don't want to reinstall over a TB of instruments a third time just for them to work properly with Kontakt.
Is there any way to easily and efficiently connect the content that I have paid good money for to Kontakt 7?
Thanks for the response

If things work and you are afraid that something will break then maybe take an image based system drive backup prior to doing any changes now. (backups are great and you can make new and delete old after a while when confident new doesn't have problems)
Also other than that , and don't know if it will help at all then maybe you should just try to reset stuff ?
The most common resetting of Native Access is this one :
resetting the Native Access XML file , look at section 8 here : My Product is Missing in Native Access
Also there is this one :
My Products Are Showing As DEMO in Native Access , especially '2. Your activation fails because of corrupted or missing activation tokens' and '3. You have corrupted XML files'
After that then here is the reinitialize the KONTAKT Database

Would have helped if you had found it necessary to include information about at least what OS you are using. But since it lacks then I will have to go with Windows 11 from your profile.
Locate All is a feature that as far as I know has not yet been implemented on PC. Re-locate on the other hand has. With the modification that if there is a mishap with one re-locate I think that it will stop the whole if using re-locate all.
please check to see if this is of help : Using the Repair / Relocate All Function in Native Access

Thanks for the response! I am new here and I entered my OS and other stats in my profile, but I did not realize that it doesn't come up automatically in the forums. Sorry about that!
I've uninstalled the instruments on my local pc and relocated each instrument successfully in Native Access. Only the instruments that I have recently updated are showing up now.
It doesn't appear that relocate is communicating properly with Kontakt 7 at the moment.
I'll just reinstall the files.
Thanks for helping me out though! I really appreciate it 🙂

Thank you returning to give feedback.
Re-locate only works on installations to re-locate already installed but moved content.
Locate is for not already installed content and it has as far as I know not yet been implemented , at least not on PC , other than when concerning third party libraries installed in another way which can be 'located' .
Sorry for not specifying that in my first post.

Oh okay I get it. The relocate button is gone now and everything looks alright on the Native Access side.
On the Kontakt side it still looks the same though :(
The ones showing up are the instruments I have updated through Native Access. The Native Instruments folder holds everything else (although the MIDI does not work with any of the banks).
The reinstalling method for the instruments that I thought up and tried also did nothing. Installing them on the local SSD also seems to bring them up (although I don't want to do this because my SSD doesn't have enough storage to hold them).
I guess it's just a bug with Kontakt and external hard drives.
I'll just have to use my old laptop for Native Instruments. I do hope NI sees this and considers fixing it because if my old laptop ever breaks most of my products will be rendered useless.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

Alright, so I just tried those three methods.
The first two didn't do anything.
The last method did reinitialize Kontakt (which was promising) and the libraries started popping up, but it was only the updated ones and the "Native Instruments" folder popped up again . . . Except that it also popped up the instruments that I have reinstalled from earlier! All my instruments are popping up now!
I never could have done it without you. Many thanks! 😛

As future reference for anyone who has the same problem,
First: Reinstall all the instruments onto the external drive (it is very time consuming but necessary)
Second: Once the instruments are reinstalled, as @PoorFellow pointed out with solution 3's link, you have to delete → C:\Users\"Username"\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Kontakt 7
Third: Refresh Native Access and open up Kontakt 7 as a standalone application.

- Software Updates: Ensure that both Kontakt 7 and Native Access are updated to the latest versions. Sometimes, compatibility issues arise due to outdated software.
- Authorization: Make sure Kontakt 7 is properly authorized through Native Access. Sometimes, licensing issues can prevent the software from functioning correctly.
- Driver and MIDI Setup: Check your MIDI settings to ensure that Kontakt 7 is properly receiving MIDI input. Make sure your MIDI controller is connected and recognized by your system.
- Audio Settings: Verify that your audio settings within Kontakt 7 are configured correctly . Make sure the correct audio interface and outputs are selected.

Thank you for the kind feedback and for sharing. 🙂
As for the suggested solutions then I had to try to approach it methodically in steps, and I had to try to make sure that there were nothing lingering from Native Access transferred through to Kontakt if could be avoided. But I am glad that step 3 helped 🙂
P.S.
So I take it that the 'midi' works too now ?

Yes the MIDI now works properly again. At first the MIDI's interface was glitched and the knobs wouldn't work with the software, but now they do. I still have some instruments that I need to reinstall, but the bulk of it is done :)
