Digital to vinyl

Hi,

I've been out of the game for a while and want to get back to dj'ing. I used to have Traktor to convert digital songs to vinyl. It was a device connecting the turntables to the computer. I'm not sure if that's still the case.

If anyone can help me know what I need to play my digital library on vinyls. And it there are any new mixers from NI that could do both since I also need a new mixer.

    Do you mean DVS aka Timecode vinyl? Where you can control software with a record?

    If you have an analog mixer all you need is a soundcard like Traktor A6 (~60 - 100 EUR used) or Reloop Flux.

    You can also buy a controller like Traktor S4 mk3 (~550 - 650 EUR used, 830 EUR new). It has two phono ins. With that you can play digitally but also control the decks with dvs, or even "real" records.     The new technology on the market is Phase DJ. With that you don't need a dvs record or a needle. Pretty neat. https://www.phasedj.com/ But it works best with Serato and only somewhat with traktor.

    Thanks a lot, lord-carlos. This is very helpful. The traktor A6 is what I used to use back in the day, but I was hoping to find a mixer that has that capability built in. Would the TRAKTOR KONTROL Z2 do that?

    Sure, any mixer that sends the phono in back to the computer.

    Traktor z2 is perfect. I currently use a Xone 96, I have used Traktor S4, you can also use most modern DJMs.

    So I dont need the Traktor A6 at all? I can just connect my turntables and computer to the Z2 and use my DVS records to control the music on my computer?

    Yeah, when the mixer/controller has a build in soundcard you don't need a second one.

    Just be aware that not all controllers or mixers are DVS compatible. Just because it has ins and outs, don't assume it will work with DVS.

    What do you mean? If it send the signal from record player back to traktor it should just works, no?

    Units that aren't designed for DVS will just play the tone coming off the vinyl through the output.

    Units that are designed for DVS will route the timecode signal directly from the input to the software, which then plays back the track audio into the channel. Kind of a send/return system.

    Yeah, I know you did, but it was the "when the mixer/controller has a build in soundcard you don't need a second one" part that I thought needed clarifying.

    Would the Xone 23 work with DVS vinyls without the Traktor A6? That would mean just starting up Traktor Scratch on my computer and playing the DVS vinyl.

    Xone 23 no, Xone 23c yes.

    But by default it sends master and something else back to the computer. You need to open it up and connect two cables.

    But that also means it loses the ability to record with traktor, as master no longer gets send back, only the two phono signals.
