Keeping Maschine Mikro MK3 in MIDI mode permanently
My Maschine Mikro MK3 keeps reverting back to its normal mode while I am using it in Logic Pro with MIDI mode. This breaks the functionality in Logic and requires repeated reactivation of MIDI mode. Is there a way to keep the unit permanently in MIDI mode? It would be nice to make the choice once then not have to press the key combination for MIDI mode over and over again while using Maschine with Logic Pro.

Probably it’s happening because you switch to a track where Maschine plugin is loaded

Exactly! I sure wish it wouldn't do this. It's as if Native Instruments has worked as hard as possible to make this thing incompatible with Logic Pro so they can force people into their custom UI.

I read now in the other thread how you are using Maschine.
Frankly, it’s a matter of how you feel more comfortable.
For instance, I like it exactly the opposite way. To use it as you want to do it, any other midi controller would be more than enough. If I use Maschine, is to take advantage of all its tight integrations, all its functionalities, and the way it has been conceived as a duo software-hardware working perfectly in tandem.
The best way imo to integrate Maschine in a DAW is to make all the routings to allow Maschine plugin to control the instruments in the other tracks of the DAW. A little more initial work, but like this I don’t have to renounce to any of the more advanced features a Maschine in controller mode has (your case is a little different, being the Mikro more limited). As I said, to use it how you are trying to do, any other standard midi controller and any other software will suffice.
As you can see, the needs of different users bring to different requests.
If when switching to a track with Maschine plugin loaded the controller would remain in the limited midi mode, it would drive me crazy as the opposite is driving you crazy 😉

Exactly, if it did not auto-detect Maschine Plug then you have people complaining about it, probably a lot more actually. MAS is way more than just an UI, which might not be as apparent to someone who owns a Mikro or is just interested in a generic 4x4 MIDI pad controller VS a dedicated one.
Try going to Logic Menu>Control Surfaces>Setup, disable the Mikro if its there, it might stop the auto-detection.
Or temporarily move any Mikro/Mk3 stuff you have in /Library/Audio/MIDI Device Scripts to somewhere else with logic closed, then start it.

It would be super cool if NI developed a direct connection to Logic while staying in Maschine mode, taking advantage of all the buttons, and not forcing us to hijack this product in MIDI mode just to make it work half-baked. Imagine buying the product, installing it, and having it work in Logic the way anyone would expect. The first time.

That is only a thing with dedicated or official controllers when the DAW has a controller API, Logic has a 'Control Surface' API but all of it's official devices are 100% aimed at mixing only, for this to change you have to ask Apple I guess. Other DAW's like Ableton, Studio One, FL Studio, etc, have API's that work well for production controllers while Logic not so much, that's why there's things like Presonous Atom, Push, Fire, etc...
Mikros are designed to be Maschine SW dedicated controllers, anything DAW-related comes 2nd if it comes at all...

The final solution for me here is to avoid the Maschine plug-in. By creating custom mappings in the Controller Editor I am now happy using the Maschine Mikro MK3 with Koala Sampler, Logic, and Ableton, while steering clear of the NI software ecosystem.
