    You can also have a single midi track that just contains a notes across different channels. For example, if I had a template with 16 pianos loaded across 16 different midi channels in a single kontakt instance, I could pick the one I wanted just by changing the channel on my midi controller. Not a workflow I'd use, but it would work.

    I could imagine working that way if using kontakt as an instrument when performing.

    I personally don't care about future proofing this NI tethered hardware - I fully expect to have to buy a new version when the older one becomes unsupported. I'd almost always want the new version anyway.

    I get other people do care, but it's not a universal feeling. As soon as the next Maschine version arrives, I'll be getting it (after looking at early adopter reviews for issues).

    Well, that can be expensive. Will you buy a new model of Maschine, if it's just a slight evolution without significative new features ?

    Agreed that companies won’t support their legacy controllers indefinitely, and in fact that’s our (users) fault, because we ****** about payed updates.


    If there were payed software updates, it would extend the life of the hardware. It is ridiculous that the first Kontrol series were only launched 10 years ago, and we are already at version 3 !!!

    Payed updates would not only be cheaper for us users long term, but would also be more profitable for companies and reduce a lot of waste !!!


    Just look at the Waves system and all the backlash/boycott it got online. Of course they need to charge for updates, because they need to spend resources to keep their products compatible with constantly evolving Operating Systems. And it’s only some change bucks per plug-in IF we update the OS, because if we don’t update the OS, we can keep using the plug-in.


    • But noooooooo! Companies can’t charge for updates! Everything must be free!

    That’s the One+ model ain’t it? That one had hardware upgrades so it is more performant than the One- at least

    Coming back to maschine.

    Akai really dropped good gear with mpc 37 key and mpc one+. The soft keeps improving.

    To the point where I'm really wondering if could be a good move selling NI gear, NI software, keeping Arturia software and going to Akai gear.

    It's not some threat or god knows what, I'm really trying to figure if I should stick with NI or not.

    It's not easy : worfklow, pads, plugin limitation, ram, cpu, automation...

    There are pros & cons with both solutions.

    If you think the Akai MPCs do something that you need in your music making which you are not getting from Maschine, go ahead and switch. Life is too short. No need to beat around the bush

    If, on the other hand, you just like the idea of constant updates and new features, regardless of whether you'll actually use any of them in your daily music making, maybe reconsider

    If only things were so simple 😅

    I love Maschine workflow but I really dislike instrument edition and lack of automation edition on the plus.

    I love MPC UI for automation and instrument/fx edition but I dislike being capped to 8 plugins and having no real arranger.

    If NI had provided just a little more updates on the plus, it would have been a nobrainer.

    But it's not 😔

    How about just focusing 110% on what you have and be determined to master your current tools and not be distracted? On one hand this on the other hand that, all this pondering makes people suck at 2 units (or more) instead of mastering one, many of the things lacking can be solved by creativity. I use Logic for automation for example, even if it’s possible to “modulate parameters” in M+. My tracks are around 85-90% finished in M+ before I transfer projects to Logic. Eventually most people who wanna finish tracks do it in a daw anyway, so why care about what akai 37 has? Or what M+ doesn’t? A big clunky 2-in-1 thing ain’t for me anyway. I have an M32 if I need it, I’m no piano player so melodies and stuff is easier for my brain to handle on the drum pads anyway. The grass isn’t greener on the other side and no instrument “has it all” anyway, so why even bother and let it distract? Make music!! That’s what it’s about! I’m 100% sure that great producers produce greatly with or without a few features, and ****** producers produce ****** no matter how many new features they get. That’s because great producers just make music and learn to master their stuff and adapt along the way.
