How can I get Chord Sets from 61 key MK3 to record and play back properly into Logic?

I’m having an issue with my Komplete 61 MK3 keyboard while using Logic and was wondering if there’s a workaround or if others are having a similar experience:

Chord sets sound fine when recording into Logic (recording to a track using an instance of Komplete Kontrol). And then when I stop and play back what I’ve just done… it’s a mess. Logic records all the notes from the chords into the piano roll, but the key you press isn’t necessarily in the chord you’re playing because of how the chords are mapped to scales in that mode. And each key is a chord, not a note. I found you have to delete all the notes recorded in the piano roll except for the actual key you played for it to sound right.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your problem seems like another manifestation of this mess! Hopefully, NI will come up with a solution soon.

Thanks, Keith - that makes sense that the issue is part of that whole situation. I thought I'd work around it by using Chord Sets in Ableton for now, but recording in Ableton let me record one chord and then muted everything else and never tracked any of the other chords I played lol. Given that the Chord/Scale functionality is a huge part of my workflow and why I bought this keyboard, the keyboard is essentially just a massive brick for me at this point. I do hope things get fixed soon.

One question, how can I record the chords / progressions from Play Assist in Logic? When I try to do this, Logic only takes the notes I play but not the chords generated by Play Assist with Komplete Kontrolle. I have created a midi track with Komplete Control as software instrument / plugin and selected a piano...

Simple answer is that it won't do it. There are some plugins availble that will "record" the chord notes played and you can then transfer them onto a track but its a messy process.

Apparently there is a way to record the Play Assist Chord Sets in Logic after all. Here is the short description. I'm still checking whether this works in other plugins and whether it also applies to arpeggios.

Recording Play Assist Chord Set with Logic / Plugin => Action Strings 2

Using the example of the Action Strings plug-in

    • Load Action Strings
    • Select Chord Sets e.g. Min 6
    • Click on the small piano symbol at the top right of Action Strings 2 plugin (in komplete kontrol) to start the monitoring mode
    • then start Play in Logic and
    • Play sequence, stop logic
    • in Action String it appears that the recorded sequence can be dragged and dropped into logic, see screenshot below
    • If you drag this, then the chords from Play Assist are available in the midi region in logic

    PS

If you only press record or play and record instead of play in logic, Action Strings Recording appears and individual notes are recorded in Logic, but... after the stop, Action Strings 2 Plugin shows that you can drag the midi region into logic and you have the same chord material from Play Assist plus the previously recorded notes.
