Computer Keyboard Taken over by Kontakt 7?

I might be crazy, but I don't remember this happening with the previous version.

I am using Kontakt 7 nested within Komplete Kontrol and am finding that with most of the instruments I am using, when I am changing a preset or modifying any parameter within that instrument, I can no longer use my computer keyboard to play notes or start and stop ableton. I have to click inside ableton to resume having this control. Is this normal behavior or is there something funky happening here?
