Massive X could not be loaded

Hello

Massive X 1.7.1 is not available in Komplete Kontrol 3.5.4 or Maschine on my Windows system, although the VST3 version loads and works correctly in Ableton Live.

I have already tried:

reinstalling Massive X and Komplete Kontrol
clearing the Komplete Kontrol plugin cache/database
rescanning plugins
testing with only the standard VST3 path enabled:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

Komplete Kontrol detects Massive X during scanning, but it does not appear in the plugin list afterwards.

The Komplete Kontrol scan log contains:

[ERROR] Scanning of plugin Massive X stopped with result code 1073741845

Windows Event Viewer reports:

Faulting application name: ni-plugin-info.exe
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll
Exception code: 0x40000015

I also tested the plugin scanner manually with:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Komplete Kontrol\ni-plugin-info.exe" --silent "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Massive X.vst3"

The scanner successfully returns the Massive X plugin metadata, including:

"scanFailed": false
"name": "Massive X"
"vendor": "Native Instruments"
"type": "vst3"
"nks2Support": true

However, the process then terminates with exit code:

1073741845

For comparison, running the same command with the regular Massive VST3 completes successfully and returns exit code 0.

Software versions:

According to provided instructions I've:

Delete registry entries for Massive X and Komplete Kontrol
Delete AppData folders for MassiveX and Komplete Kontrol
Check OS updates
Check graphic card drivers
Set scaling to 100%
Run Komplete Kontrol as administrator
Check sound card drivers updates
Disable entirely Windows Anivirus/Defender options

Problem remains the same.

When Komplete Kontrol making a scan of plugins Massive X shows up for a sec in first pass, and then there is another pass of scan only for Massive X

Massive X is not visible in plugins list in Komplete Kontrol

Ableton can load this plugin without issue

@Jeremy_NI , I found an installer for Komplete Kontrol 3.3.4 (https://support.native-instruments.com/support/solutions/articles/69000879306-komplete-kontrol-legacy-installers-for-older-operating-systems) and it can load Massive X without any issues. However Maschine 3.6.0 still cannot load Massive X.

Looks like current version of Komplete Kontrol 3.5.4 and Maschine 3.6.0 have an issue with Massive X 1.7.1.

It is possible to downgarde Maschine too?

Same issue here, I can confirm this on a second system.

Setup:

Massive X [1.7.1] / Komplete Kontrol [3.5.4]
Windows [10/11 version], i7-13700H, 64 GB RAM, RTX 4060 Laptop + Iris Xe
Kontrol S61 MK3

Symptoms match exactly:

"Loading Issue: Massive X could not be loaded" in Komplete Kontrol
Massive X missing from Preferences > Plug-ins > Manager (neither VST3 nor VST2)
Loads and works fine in Studio One Pro and Reaper

Manual scanner test gives the same result as yours:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Komplete Kontrol\ni-plugin-info.exe" --silent "C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Massive X.vst3"
→ returns valid metadata ("scanFailed": false, "nks2Support": true), then:
Assertion failed: Successful WSASTARTUP not yet performed [10093] (D:\NIBuild\3rdparty\zeromq-v4.3.5-R2\src\ip.cpp:399)
Exit code: 1073741845 (0x40000015)

The Komplete Kontrol log shows the same crash for both Massive X.vst3 and the VST2 Massive X.dll, then:
[ERROR] Could not find VST for NKS preset file
Load Instrument preset FAILED (Massive X could not be loaded.)

Looks like ZeroMQ inside Massive X asserts on teardown because Winsock isn't initialised in ni-plugin-info, so the scanner aborts and KK throws away the otherwise successful scan.

Already tried: reinstalling Massive X, rescanning, clearing the cache, forcing KK onto the NVIDIA GPU, full power cycle. No change.

I've raised a support ticket with the logs.

@Jeremy_NI, could you confirm this is a known issue and whether a fix is coming for Massive X or ni-plugin-info?

Workaround for now: load Massive X directly in the DAW instead of through Komplete Kontrol. Not ideal but will work until they fix it

@Jeremy_NI Thanks, I've already raised a ticket two weeks ago, still without any valid resolution.

I've found also hacky workaround, you can downgrade Komplete Kontrol to 3.3.4 version, scan plugins, Massive X should be working, then take komplete.db3 and Plugin.data from C:\Users\{user_name}\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Komplete Kontrol, replace those files in Maschine 3 app data folder and Massive X can be loaded then. After downgrade and rescan, it is possible to upgrade KK to newest version and Massive X remains available.
