How to get Ghost "Square Hammer" guitar tone in Guitar Rig 7?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to recreate the guitar tone for the song "Square Hammer" by Ghost using Guitar Rig 7.

I know the original tone is based on a vintage hard rock crunch (like a Marshall Plexi/JCM800 or Orange), rather than high-gain modern distortion. I've tried experimenting with the Jump/Hot Plex amps, adding a Skreamer (Tube Screamer) for a slight mid-boost, and using a Spring Reverb.

I am attaching a screenshot of my current setup. I've made a preset that goes: Skreamer -> Jump -> Matched Cabinet Pro -> Choral. However, the sound is quite boxy/cardboard-like, and the pick attack is way too prominent on the main riff.

Does anyone have a preset they could share, or specific advice on settings (Amp choice, Gain levels, EQ, Cabinet/Mic choices)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can only try to help you adjust amp settings.

Turn your main volume knob down to almost zero on the amp. Do the same thing on the Screamer pedal. Then crank the drive knob on the pedal first. Raise the volume pedals second.

Think: Low volume, high gain. Make sense?

Hard to know what Tobias Forge actually used in the recording. Could have been a Marshall. Could have been a Laney or an Orange. The guitars are extremely compressed in the recording.
