No Midi In/Out options for S49 in Standalone Komplete Kontrol

Question

I'm trying to fix an issue I'm having with getting my S49 (mk1) to work with Ableton and also the standalone Komplete Kontrol program. I have Version 2.9.6 installed since I believe that is the last working version with my keyboard.

In Komplete Kontrol (standalone), my s49 is recognized and the keyboard says "Press Browse". I press browse on the keyboard and the menu pops up on my computer. So I know my computer is picking up the connection, but I can't get it to show up in the midi options, and as a result, no midi data is sending.

I saw a different post saying they had a similar issue and it was the result of CCleaner, and their only solution was to do a fresh install of Windows. I was also using CCleaner, so maybe my situation is the same, but I'm hoping to avoid having to do a full reinstall of Windows.

okay I feel dumb because I should have tried this before typing this long post. I reinstalled KK 2.9.6 and now it's working

If you are in the standalone desktop app you should see the keyboard listed in the MIDI preferences if the MIDI is working:

You will not see that in your DAW as MIDI In/Out is handled at the DAW Midi section which you should also see your keyboard listed.

If the OSD browser is working then you have "Host Integration" working which is a separate level from the MIDI side, however if you do not see the keyboard listed in the MIDI In/Out options in Standalone KK then you have an issue with the MIDI driver side. You could try uninstall KK and reinstall but other than that I have no real ideas.

Not sure what is really wrong here - but as MKII user for years - you need to set things up with board in standalone mode and stay far away from Ableton until it is done.

Fire up KK v2.9.6 in standalone - and then go to Edit→Preferences - you should see a series of options/tabs that you can go into and update like Audio, MIDI, General, Library and Plugins.
