The free Reason Rack plugin gives you a free, independent plugin version of the Reason Rack, which runs inside any compatible host DAW as a VST3, AU, or AAX.
Is the free Reason Rack plugin really free?
Yes. The free Reason Rack plugin is free to download and keep forever. There is no trial period, no expiry date.

What is the Reason Rack?
The Reason Rack is a virtual instrument and effects system inspired by studio rackmount hardware. It lets you combine instruments, effects, MIDI tools, and utilities to create sounds, patches, and full production setups. It can be used inside Reason or as the Reason Rack plugin in any compatible DAW, available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
Does Reason Free also include the Reason DAW?
Yes.
The Reason DAW is included in the installer alongside Reason Rack Free. It comes with a full range of professional features:
- Multi-track sequencer, Blocks mode, and comping
- Time-stretch, transpose, and Vocal Edit
- Audio slicing and quantize
- Full mixer, VST2/VST3 support, and Ableton Link
Note: The free version supports up to 16 audio or instrument tracks.
Can I use Reason free if I already own an older version of Reason?
- Reason 9 or older: You can install Reason Free without any issues and keep your previous version side-by-side.
- Reason 10-13: We do not recommend installing Reason Rack if you wish to keep your current plugin version. Installing Reason Free will overwrite your existing Reason Rack plugin installation as Reason Free is based on the latest Reason version. If you've installed Reason Free, simply uninstall it to regain access to your existing devices in Reason Rack.
