Kontakt 8 multirack, route each instrument to a separate DAW channel

I haven't been able to find the answer to this specific question by searching the forum… so please feel free to redirect me if this has already been answered.

My DAW is Bitwig Studio, this is directly relevant to my question, as Bitwig have a fairly unique approach to things like routing. It's very flexible.

I have a new PC which has enough raw power to support adding Kontakt per channel as I might wish to (i.e. just throw in a new instance of Kontakt every time I want a particular instrument), however it is always very slow to initially load a project, due always to the time it takes to 'register' Kontakt (or whatever exactly takes the time).

So I thought I'd try to leverage the multirack feature of Kontakt. It's easy enough loading and navigating multiple instruments, but here's my specific need/desire (thus, not yet found in other posts)…

I put my new multirack on one channel and add all the instruments I wish. I know about the routing - I know that there are 4 banks of outputs available per instrument - but this isn't what I'm trying to achieve. What I'd like to be able to do is to create a multirack, and then on each instrument send its output to a new channel (which other DAWs might call "channel strip" or "track"). The idea is so that I can then treat that channel as an instrument in its own right i.e processing, volume faders, EQ, FX applied to that specific channel, affecting the instrument routed to it, and not having everything layered inside the single instance of Kontakt on its own channel.

Is this possible? It may be (I hope so) but I haven't seen it in the manual anywhere.

You can use the Kontakt rack the way it was originally designed to be used, by giving each instrument its own MIDI channel. Under Options>handling Kontakt will do this for you automatically when you load the instruments. Each instrument can then be separately programmed and routed, though having never used a commercial DAW I can't tell you how to set up your host programme to send the necessary channel data.

in ableton, it need to affect the additional audio tracks inputs on Kontakt 8 and select the chanel.

it should works the same way in bitwig. midi track for Kontakt instance, audio tracks for separate ouputs.

thank you for trying to help, but no - this is expliticly what I do not want… to have to start messing around with individual output channels on the same track.

I want each instrument inside the multirack to output to different tracks in the DAW.

oh, so… you're saying that Options > handling > Midi channel assignment for loaded patches | Assign to omni

should instead be set to | Assign to first free?

It's really that simple?? Wow. This would at least just allow each additional instrument to trigger a separate output … I'll go and have a fiddle around and see if this will then allow the routing I desire. Many thanks for the helpful reply!
