I think with the NI standalone apps each one should have a standalone metronome onboard. You can set up its tempo and sound then toggle it on, and it just plays by itself; no piano roll or playback necessary. Using the same icon and function as if it were being hosted as a vsti in a daw.
The Komplete Kontrol, Kontakt etc. are live software; there's no daw involved, so having a metronome that can play by itself is good. The KK keyboards have the machine and daw buttons doing nothing, while the metro button can be used to toggle a built in metronome.
I keep having to tap my foot cause I got no metronome going. I will have to use a daw or smart phone app for that, but then it defeats the purpose of having the standalone apps at all.
