Sound works in Garageband with limited control / Sound does not work in stand-alone

Question

I use Guitar Rig 7 in Garageband, and the sound output works fine, but for some reason I can barely adjust controls in the plugin app. Knobs will only turn 1/100 or 1/10 at a time, and many times won't go past 1/10th of a turn (just sticks after that).

So I used the standalone for a while because it allowed me full control of knobs and sliders. I could make the adjustments I wanted, save the custom preset, and then use that in Garageband. Yesterday out of the blue, the standalone app stopped making output noise. You can hear the guitar no problem, but it's a standard dry, unprocessed sound.

I'm using Scarlett 2i2 v.3. No changes to anything on the interface. I've tried making a new aggregate device in the audio setup, but no luck.

not necessarily if you use macros with gr and look on the parameter the macro is connected to, the macro of course should turn all the way but not the parameter the macro is connected with if set a certain way. BUT if it behaves that way with a parameter after the first 16 controls (macros) in the list, then there is something wrong, maybe with a controller in the wrong mode, not absolute mode, for example, or something else.

This should not be happening. Controls and knobs in the plugin should operate the way you expect them to in either stand alone or while opened inside your DAW, as Guitar Rig 7, Kontakt, and Massive— are all supposed to work seamlessly with GarageBand on a Mac.

Could it be the mapping of your inputs and outputs for the Scarlett 2i2?
