Why does my Logic Pro session automatically start when I select a Kontakt instrument track?

Hi, I just noticed that any project that I open in Logic Pro, and has an instance of Kontakt 8 in it, starts from the beginning when I select a track within the project using my mouse. If I select a track that uses any other VST like Pianoteq, for instance, the track does not start. The track only starts everytime I click on a Kontakt track.

I'm wondering if somehow my s61 is sending a "start" message? I don't know where to look to see if that is the case.

Is this happening to anyone else? If not, does anyone have any ideas?

Hey Jeremy - I think it's working now. It took me awhile, and 2 or 3 attempts, but I reset the s61 to factory default, and that worked. I had attempted that first before contacting you in the first place, and then I thought I did it during our back and forth troubleshooting, but I tried one more time and this time it worked.

Hey Charlie, so this is happening only when your keyboard is connected, right? Is it also happening if you open a Komplete Kontrol track in Logic?

Did you make any MIDI assignments on the keyboard itself? https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/25583472140573-How-to-use-MIDI-Templates-with-the-Kontrol-S-Series-MK3

You could try to create a default template, that should reset all MIDI assignments to default.

It also could be there is a particular MIDI message assigned in Logic, not sure how you can find it but if you are not sure, resetting Logic to default settings should get rid of that assignment.

Reset Logic Pro settings

Resetting Logic Pro settings doesn’t affect your project files, presets or patches. However, you do lose any custom preference settings you might have made.

Choose Logic Pro > Settings (or Preferences)
Note any specific settings that you've made.
In the Logic Pro Settings (or Preferences) menu, choose Reset All Settings (or Preferences) Except Key Commands. This will affect the settings as follows:
- Resets user-defined global settings
- Resets Control Bar settings to defaults
- Turns off Advanced Settings
- Resets defaults for the Track header
- Resets New Tracks dialogue defaults

After resetting, open your project and try to reproduce the issue. You may have to turn Advanced Settings back on. If the issue no longer occurs, open Logic Pro settings and reapply your custom settings.

Morning, I've loaded a default midi template in the s61, and still have the start issue in Logic whenever I select a Kontakt instrument track, includung the Kontakt Komplete track. When I turn the s61 off, Logic works like normal - no automatic starts. I must have inadvertently changed a setting somehow. How do I restore the keyboard? I have not created any custom maps or templates since purchasing this, so I don't need to save any data.

Well, loading a new template resets it to default. If problem is still here, it probably means there is a MIDI assignment in Logic to one of the controls of the keyboard, we would recommend resetting it to default, as mentioned earlier.

Hey Jeremy, thanks for the quick replies.

I just reset all of the settings in Logic to default.

When I open a new project, select Kontakt8 as my software instrument in a new project, Logic automatically starts playing - any idea what that is? Is anyone else having this issue, or am I the lucky one?lol !

This is definitely a strange one, I don't think I saw similar cases yet.
