Change from Sustain to Expression Pedal on a61 Komplete Kontrol Keyboard

Hi I followed all of the instructions on this page for how to correctly configure pedals on this keyboard. I have both a sustain and expression pedal, so sometimes I switch between them depending on how I play. However the most recent time I've been trying to change the setting from sustain to expression it doesn't seem to do anything, and whenever I try and use my expression pedal it keeps working only as a sustain.

Additionally, regardless of the settings I change in komplete kontrol (the software) whichever pedal I have plugged in continues to work as a sustain pedal (even if I configure it incorrectly for that purpose according to the page I linked to)

I know I've managed to switch between them before without issues but for some reason I'm having difficulty this time.

Any ideas how to fix?

@KingFelix2374 What happens if you create a new template? This should reset all MIDI assignments to default.

If you do the following:

1.Delete the USER Registry Entry

Click the Windows Start button at the bottom left side of your screen.
In the Registry Editor, navigate the folder structure to this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Native Instruments > Komplete Kontrol (Folder)
Note: Deleting the incorrect folder could result in unexpected behavior with other applications, and possibly your operating system.
Close the Registry Editor and reopen the Komplete Kontrol software to check that the issue has been resolved. If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.

2. Reinitialize the Komplete Kontrol Database

Note: The "AppData" folder is hidden. See this article for instructions to access hidden Windows folders.
Search through the Native Instruments folder at this location to find the Komplete Kontrol folder.
Note: Deleting other NI product folders could result in unexpected behavior with other applications.
Reopen the Komplete Kontrol software to check that the issue has been resolved. If the issue persists, please proceed to the next steps below.

Hi again, I have tried everything that you mentioned (including creating another template) but unfortunately nothing seems to have any effect and regardless of what configuration or pedal I use it continues to behave as a sustain pedal. It seems like something else appears to be overriding the settings I set in Komplete Kontrol somehow but I am unsure how or what could actually be causing this.

For example when I have a sustain pedal plugged in, even though I set it incorrectly as in the above screenshot it continues to work even though the midi settings are wrong.

Likewise the correct settings for an expression pedal also don't seem to change anything and it works as if it were a sustain pedal even though it is set to continuous.

Apologies for coming back to this but I really am unsure what the cause could be

No need to apologise, it's a very unusual behaviour. Are you using the latest version of the Komplete Kontrol application? If you edit/assign other MIDI controls on knobs for example and monitor MIDI messages, do the changes you make on the Komplete Kontrol app are also not translating? You can use that to check: https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/209544729-How-to-Monitor-the-Output-of-a-MIDI-Controller

If it's only the pedal, it could be a hardware default. If you can check if the behaviour is similar on another computer, that would be the ultimate test.

I tried using the midi monitor and yes it does seem that none of the changes I am making in Komplete Kontrol are having any effect (including for the knobs). The screenshot below shows me moving the first knob & it's still showing as a message for controller 14 even though I have changed the value.

I tried reinstalling Komplete Kontrol so I know for sure I must be on the latest version.

Well, next step is to try on another computer and see if the behaviour is the same.

I've installed Komplete Kontrol on another laptop and on that one (at least for the knobs) reassigning the values does seem to work correctly when using midiview. I'm going to try again on my main computer and double check everything again to see if I've maybe made a mistake somewhere but other than that it does not appear to be a hardware defect.

After deleting Komplete Kontrol again and following all the instructions in your first reply (as well as deleting any other files relating to it I managed to find) as well as restarting my computer it seems to be working ok now. I'm not sure exactly what I did that solved the issue but thank you very much for all your help nevertheless. The only problem I'm still having at the moment is that I don't seem to be able to delete the extra templates I made in Komplete Kontrol? This isn't a major issue however and thank you again for all the support.

Hi again just coming back to this because I think I found out something relevant. If the keyboard is plugged in when the computer is turned on there's no issue and it behaves as I have configured it in Komplete Kontrol. However, if I plug it in after it's already been turned on then the settings are incorrect across the board. No idea what could be causing this. Again apologies for being a bit stuck on this.

@KingFelix2374 Interesting! Thanks for the feedback, at least we made some progress. Checking with the team regarding this strange behaviour. Have you tried to plug the cable in another USB slot of your computer?

Hi again, yes I did try that at one time earlier but I don't recall that it made much of a difference. I will try it again at some point though just in case.
