migrating Studio Drummer mixer settings from older versions of Kontakt to newer

Hi — Im a long time Kontakt user , and am getting ready to upgrade to Kontakt 8, so i decided to open up some older unfinished projects in Kontakt 5 to see if i could get all the exact multiple outputs, eq etc to transfer to Kontakt 6 (so that hopefully they will open in Kontakt 8) , and …… they don't seem to migrate…. Ive tried saving a new instrument file and a snap shot file , and while the correct instrument come up in K6 , the mixer, eq, drum tunings & routings don't seem to transfer over….. Does anybody have suggestions as to how to get all my settings from older versions of Kontakt S.Dr. to open up in newer versions ——(Im working in PT mac) —- I notice some of the mixer settings in S.Dr. Kontakt 5 like "Rockoholic" don't even seem to exist in the Kontakt 6 version.

@John Kurzweg Auto-migration should work for Pro Tools, down to Kontakt 5.1.0, as explained in this article: Notes about Auto-Migration of Kontakt Versions in DAW Projects

You'll also find how to make it work, basically you need to uninstall all previous versions of Kontakt.

What version of Studio Drummer were you using in the Kontakt 5 days?

Kontakt version 5.8.1. —- I thought the studio drummer version was decided by the Kontakt version(?)……And i presently have both 5 and 6 (and 7 player) working on an Intel Mac Mini , and am slowly moving over to an M2 mac mini with Tahoe , thus the inevitable upgrade to Kontakt 8

Hi VP —

So i have pro tools sessions with Kontakt 5 Studio Drummer that open correctly with all SDr drum, eq transient, and mixer etc settings (including multi outputs) , that i would like saved in a way that i can open in Kontakt 6 and Kontakt 8 (and future versions) —- I thought that if i saved a new .nki Instr file, or a nksn snapshot file in Kontakt 5, i would be able to correctly open studio drummer in Kontakt 6 & future version with all the correct SDr drum tunings and mixer SDr settings, but so far when i load the new Instr or snapshot file in Kontakt 6 , it does not open with the same drum tunings, eqs, fader setting etc….(And of course Im only referring to the SDr Kontakt mixer settings, not my DAW etc!—-i dont own Kontakt 8 yet, but soon will be updating, thus the need to ensure forward/backwards compatibilty w Studio Drummer settings). Do i need to save the mixer settings a a separate file, or somewhere hidden in the .nki or nksn.?

Sorry John. Not a ProTools user nor a user of K5 any longer.

Today with modern versions of Kontakt - and depending on the DAW in play - Kontakt has "auto migration" where you simply open an old session in the DAW and if that DAW support this process - the "old" instance of Kontakt simply opens in a newer version of Kontakt.

Studio One over here offers this - so there is not need to "save" out configurations etc. However - I am not well versed in Kontakt enough (IN ProTools) to know if it's is even possible to do what you want to do.

I think your best bet right now is to open a ticket and see if NI has any suggestions. If ProTools does not support auto migration - you may need to recreate each instance manually in a modern version of Kontakt.

Thanks VP, i really appreciate you taking the time to answer —- I'll try opening a ticket with NI and see if i get anywhere——Otherwise there will be a whole lot of parameters to manually copy , so im hoping they have a work around….

Hi Jeremy_NI —- Ive tried those instructions—uninstalling K5 and even reinstalling 6, but when i open the PT session it just tells me Kontakt 5 is missing…..
