S49 MK3 not working properly.

Just got the S49 MK3. Keyboard works MIDI-wise. can play etc. BUT the keyboard controls nothing. I can't load or additional samples like all NI videos about this keyboard. I tagged the keyboard in KK app, Cubase sees it. If I load a ZebraHZ sample via the mouse, the keyboard screen shows what I loaded but I can't change samples, addition, nothing, the s49 screen only has data, letters and numbers on it, none of the pretty pictures, same with everything I load, its like all the s49 is, is a bad visual info screen. Help !!!! I fxxxxn hate all the videos with just about everything no one ever discusses problems…just plug in the keyboard and start playing and everything works…..just not so…please help - thx

Hello,

please try first komplete kontrol stand alone, only if everything works there it can work in your daw, then of course also via komplete kontrol as plugin. Then we can check in the daw if transport and mixer works and all that but one step at a time.

Do you have Komplete Kontrol installed? That is the only way to control NKS instruments.

Kontakt 7/8 can also be controlled via direct control.

Uwe - thanks for giving it a shot. I close down Cubase. Launch KK and in the S49 window it says,Default MIDI Template. I do not see anything KK on the screen, not the graphic or anything. Nothing if I load a sample. I also can't play the MIDI notes, in Cubase the MIDI notes comes through.

For Vocal point yes, I have Komplete Kontrol - KK as well as Kontakt - Kontakt 5,7,8

Any ideas ?

If you open up komplete kontrol stand alone and drop a sample onto it it should open the sampler module and you should see some controls on the screen, also you might need to activate the keyboard midi in under the midi settings for the stand alone kk app in order to be able to play some notes . What if you press browse on the keyboard? I think there is some midi connection missing, have you installed the hardware service within native access?

So what happens if you fire up KK in standalone mode? Nothing? Is the keyboard even recognizable within Kk?

Have you allowed the proper permissions for Mac OS? Including the Network permissions?

And what is happening in Native Access? Everything normal?

Finally - what version of Cubase?

In KK - no MIDI going to it, nothing lights up when I hit the keys but I go to the menu for controller and the keyboard is there, not grayed out but regular like it's there. Open at Log In. NI Hardware Agen, NIHC Service, NIHI Agent. Network Permissions, do I need to do something with the S49 for the network ? Ive been running the same system that I have with a different controller with zero issues. Native Access, everything I'm supposed to install is installed, Hardware Connection service etc. Cubase 14 Artist.

Just did another restart after clicking through everything and I now get the s49 to trigger midi in KK standalone but nothing changes while in Cubase. All the screen says is "Komplete Kontrol"

IF I go out of Cubase to this browser I'm on now, the s49 Window shows me the channels/faders of Cubase.

Not a mac user - but yes - there is a ton of permissions that you must allow for practically everything you have installed.

Maybe a Mac user can chime in - but this process has been getting more and more complex in the last year or two.

Uwe - if I hit Browser on the keyboard - nothing happens. Only Plug-In can be selected. Actually no button reacts to pushing it. The wheels reacts and the slider does…. nothing else. Wonder if there's a master reset and start over. Anyone else with some ideas.

Sounds to me like the Hardware Connection service is simply not able to talk to the device at all.

Perhaps due to permissions if it is known to be installed.

Other than this - I think you should consider getting a support ticket started. Not sure how much more we can do here.

Did you check that the HCS is actually running as suggested by VocalPoint .

Also , what is your keyboard firmware version ? You need to be using latest firmware version.

Else then we are most likely back to the now classical USB-C Connectivity Issue: (also found at page linked to above in my answer)

Problem:
Some computer chip sets made between 2020 and 2023 have a known USB-C error that can't be fixed. This can cause sporadic problems with USB-C peripherals like the Kontrol S MK3, including connection failures,freezing, or issues with firmware updates.

Solution:
If you experience these issues, try using a USB-C hub between your Kontrol S MK3 and your computer. This can help avoid the problem and ensure a stable connection. This is critically important during firmware updates, as data loss could cause broken firmware. Make sure the hub supports both power and data transfer.

Same for Cubase?
