Good morning, I accidentally spilled a liquid on my MK3 S-88 and two keys broke. Is it possible to repair them?
I just had to completely disassemble my MK3 S-88 to fix a key that was not making contact and therefor a dead key. I tried to get help from NI but they refused any manual or explanation about fixing the key. Their suggestion was that I send the keyboard to New Jersey and pay $80 for someone to look at it, with the repair in addition to this. I live in Panamá so that was not an option, it would be less expensive to purachse a new keyboard. That said, it is possible to open the thing up and exchange keys to new ones, if they will sell you the new keys. I have some photos if you want to look at them. The two big things are first, be very careful when you disconnect the ribbons. There is a small "lock" that needs to be pulled down BEFORE you pull the ribbon out. The second is that once you get all the screws out and think that the keyboard should come apart, it will not. The top and bottom have this "glue" substance that is put into 3 or 4 rectangular plastic male/female connectors. It is not a glue that dries but is very sticky. Take care with this but you can pull it apart and then get to the keys and install the new ones. I had to pull out about 6 keys to get to where I needed to clean the contacts. Good luck!
