Using S61 MK3 keyboard with Kontakt standalone

Question from a complete NI newbie.

I am looking to purchase a Kontrol S61 MK3 keyboard with Komplete 15 ultimate purely to play presets. Am I correct in saying that opening up Kontakt 7 in standalone mode (I have no need to use a DAW) I can access all of the instrument presets that come with the 15 package via the S61 screen.

No.

Any NKS 2.0 instrument/effect/Expansion etc that is NOT Kontakt based - cannot be manipulated from within Kontakt alone. You will need Komplete Kontrol for all the rest.

You cannot control say - Massive X - using Kontakt in any way. That will require Komplete Kontrol.

No such option for Kontakt 7 now with Komplete 15. It will be Kontakt 8

And yes. For the Kontakt libraries only - you will see presets for those via the S61

As far as I know then Kontakt 7 also supports the Direct Connection needed for communicating directly between the Kontakt app and the S-Series MK3 keyboards (please see this support article).

However then VocalPoint is right with respect to the use of Kontakt 8 in as much as that some Kontakt libraries needs Kontakt 8 or needs Kontakt 8 to use the latest update of the library.

Also I think that what VocalPoint means is that the Komplete 15 Standard and higher tier comes with the full version of Kontakt 8 so there is really no problem with that . Check Komplete 15 bundle content here : Compare Komplete 15 bundles . If you only gets the Komplete 15 Select that comes free with the keyboard then the Kontakt 8 version is not the full version but only Player version.

Also then if you use the Komplete Kontrol app rather than the Kontakt app then you will get access to using plugins not available in Kontakt…

Thanks for the replies but I am still confused between Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 8.

From what I have read it seems that Komplete Kontrol is the link needed for the S61 MK3 keyboard to access the instruments/patches/presets but this runs in a DAW which I don't want to use if at all possible. If Kontakt 8 is opened in standalone mode will I be able to access all of the sounds included in the Komplete 15 ultimate pack.

Out of interest if using KK and K8 within a DAW what is the difference between them and why would you need both.

There appear to be a misunderstanding. Both Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt comes as both standalone app and as a plugin.

If Kontakt 8 is opened in standalone mode will I be able to access all of the sounds included in the Komplete 15 ultimate pack.

Not all sounds are Kontakt libraries , some are e.g. Maschine Expansion , but Kontakt might still open loops and one-shots from there…

Both Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol can be used as both standalone and as a plugin in a DAW.

But in Komplete Kontrol you can also open other plugins e.g. such as synths and effects and create plugin chains inside Komplete Kontrol (check the video linked to above). As I wrote then you can also use Komplete Kontrol as standalone app) , the picture below here is from Komplete Kontrol standalone app. :
