Let's start this discussion with the fact that I have my NI instruments and content on an external HD. I moved everything from my internal HD (half a TB) onto an external HD because of my NI subscription being bloated and not leaving hardly any room for anything else to exist. Apps and libraries are on the external HD. VSTs are all still in my internal HD's default folder.
Trust me, I have tried to clear off anything and everything that I don't need on my internal HD and I still would only have about 70GB left to work with if I moved everything NI back to that. I don't like the lack of headroom left on my internal HD if I do this. That is a hard "no" for me. No exceptions.
I have also moved other ecosystem's apps to the external drive to save space on my internal HD (Arturia, for instance) but because of other apps (mainly iZotope) I am running out of room. So, since NI has the ability to run from an external drive, I chose that option.
However…NI support told me a few versions ago that they do not recommend running their apps on an external HD. Which is weird, because I am aware of many people doing this, and also weird because well, NI does support it. So there's that inconsistency.
After an update to the latest version which will work with my OS, I ran KK and it did a rescan of all VSTs and apps and there are a TON that are just missing now. I have taken all of the steps that NI support pages tell us to to "fix" the problem

When watching the VST scan it only detects most of my VSTs but not all of them. It used to scan the entire library but it is ignoring a bunch of them now. IT doesn't matter how many times I do this rebuild it still doesn't see everything.
After the database rebuild and VST scan. I did a rescan of VSTs, checked the paths to those VSTs and they are all correct, did a deep scan for the VSTs, and it still fixates on the incorrect number of VSTs. It still misses a lot of them on scan.
It even "lost" Kontakt 8, which is bizarre.
I really, truly, super do not want to move everything back to my internal HD and end up with being squeezed for space there.
Anyideas before I put their support dept through the ringer…again?
