How do I fix this

How do I fix this so I can install and access Kontakt?

I reinstalled windows and just installed Native Instruments and installed Kontakt and now it crashes every time I launch it. Should I uninstall it or reinstall Native instruments? What does One Drive have to do with anything?

Hello,

on my pc it works all with one drive enabled, i even want it that way, so i don´t have to backup my projects and own presets and stuff myself. You just have to set this folder to "always keep a copy on pc" or something like that by right click on the native instruments folder and select this "keep copy …." function, cause otherwise it happens what @Vocalpoint described above. So the above way is also good if you don´t want to have a backup of those files cause you do it manually or you use another cloud backup.

Seems you have OneDrive installed and have allowed it to forcefully take over ALL your standard Windows Folder locations - including the all-important Documents folder (as you can see in the screen cap).

Since OneDrive is constantly syncing in real time - it is most likely locking files that Kontakt needs available and since Kontakt cannot get exclusive access to them - a crash is possibly the next destination.

You need to decouple OneDrive from all "special folders" ASAP by going here:

And shut this all off…

Hopefully Kontakt settles down after this.

Thanks for the reply. Should I unlink from Onedrive, now that it's no longer backing up and I've made available offline all me folders in OneDrive? Should I uninstall Kontakt 6.8 it and reinstall it?

I could never get my Doc folder to behave to my liking with OneDrive sticking it's nose into the "real" Documents folder so I simply moved the stuff I do want OneDrive to handle to a separate folder that sit inside the actual OneDrive folder.

That way - everything is nicely separated and I can use any/all products that need to install to the defualy Documents folder with no hangups.

One my next DAW build in Spring 2026 - I will be removing OneDrive permanently completely and moving to an even better solution that still allows me to use my OneDrive cloud space yet does not require the OneDrive app at all (so no excessive CPU resources in use on the DAW itself.+

Do not think that Kontakt is the issue - If you can stop OneDrive from poking it's nose into your action - that should be good enough.

That said - this is not to say that the crash you are experiencing is 100% due to this OneDrive layout. It could be many other things. This is an obvious one that we can take out of the equation for troubleshooting.

If the crashes continue - you know it wasn't OneDrive.

Yeah one drive has getting worse over the last few years with win11 and some crucial functions are not easy to reach as they where before + some other issues with transition from 10 to 11 and more. But I made a new installation and now it works as I want it but I can absolutely understand if you don't like one drive and abdon it completely.

To the op you should not need to reinstall your stuff, it should be local now, just maybe takes a while to download and make those files available locally, depending on the size of course.

I was able to figure it out. I was trying to install a newer version. I totally forget to go to legacy downloads and get the one I was using. I got it and installed it and it's working good now. Thanks for all the replies and help. I appreciate it.
