KK mk 1 & Cubase 15 Pro stopped working

Hi All,

I know that my S61 Mk1 is past EOL but I wanted to keep using it.

Ever since I installed Cubase 15, I can see MIDI going into Cubase, but I can't hear anything playing or recording. I've checked back in Cubase 14 (Pro also) and that now has the same issue.

Interestingly, if I use KK in standalone or Studio One, it seems to work fine.

I've already posted on several Cubase forums (as I suspect it's more a Cubase issue than NI), but none of the kind people trying to help have been able to put their finger on the problem. So I thought I'd ask if anyone here has come across the same issue?

I've tried the following with no luck so far -

I've uninstalled and reinstalled KK 2.9.6
I've connected through USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports
In desperation, I've tried various combinations in my MIDI setup in Cubase. So much so that now I'm not quite sure what the original settings were!

Failing that, is anyone with KK Mk1 and Cubase 15 Pro able to post a screenshot of what their Midi setup is I can go back to that and start again.

In one sense, I'm tempted to bite the bullet and purchase a Mk3 KK, but I'm not prepared to part with that much $$ unless I can be sure that KK is the problem!

I don't have an MK1 but can you post the MIDI input settings for your Cubase? If there is no MIDI playing to tracks from the keyboard it sounds like your keyboard MIDI input is not selected maybe.

Note: I know I have Win RT selected in this screenshot, but I've tried it with and without with no improvement!

KK settings v2.96. It works fine in standalone with these settings.

So not sure on your issue as I do not have an MK1 nor Cubase but since it works fine in KK standalone and even in another DAW, it is certainly something in Cubase and from my old days of using Cubase 3, Cubase SX and old versions of Nuendo the MIDI side always felt more complicated than it needed to be.

Hard to easily find even setup info for the MK1 now via a quick google but I see a post on the Cubase forums with the exact same issue you have (unless that was your post):

No solution tho. I would think at least MIDI input would work even if host control does not so it is strange you cannot get any MIDI input happening.

Hi.

Yeah that was me too. I've actually solved the problem… and it was probably PBCS (Problem Between Chair and Screen).

After going through a bunch of questions with Chat GPT to eliminate other issues, I tried the monitor button on the track in my DAW. Doh!🤦

I'd completely forgotten that I changed some settings after watching a top Cubase tips video on YouTube a few months back, and since I'd only been mixing for a couple of months, I hadn't noticed what it had done. I couldn't figure out which ones, so I just rolled back to what I had backed up in January, and now I'm back up and running… phew!

It had also stopped me from switching to other tracks. Not a particulalry good tip for me. Probably should have listened more carefully! 😂
