NI Massive freezes DAW FL Studio 21

Hey,

it's 2026 and NI Massive, which was included as a free download on pluginboutique, crashes the entire system and DAW, just like in the days of wild Windows XP.

Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

A better question is - why FL Studio 21? Which was out of support long ago.

If this is an actual issue with that version - you won't see any fixes to that version nor would NI ever be testing here in 2026 against it.

Current version of FL is 25.2.2

You're mistaken – FL21 still has support, and besides, the fault lies not with the DAW but with the plug-in.

Fair enough. Seems you are pretty confident in the cause.

However I would add that Massive was (and still is) used by millions and has been for years now.

If there was any known issue with a plugin this old (even when FL21 was still current back in 2022) - everyone (including NI) would have known about it and addressed it years ago.

The last "real" bug fix update for Massive was v1.5.12 back in 2023

That said - if NI still tests their products under FL Studio - they would not be using v21. They would be testing against v25 or nothing.

You may want to check Event Viewer in Windows 10 - if Massive is actually crashing the system out - you may find some clues as to what is causing it.

But, that left aside, you can't possibly know if it's the plugin's fault. Actually, considering that Massive runs here without issue in Cubase and Studio (and pretty much anything else), it's very likely that it's either the combination of DAW and plugin, OR it's something about your system (like the GPU), which is an issue.

But has anyone else using FL Studio 21 suddenly complained about rampant crashes? Doubtful this has anyting to do with Massive whatsoever.

FL Studio (regardless of version) is a known crash fest at the best of times. A simple Google search brings back hundreds of recent issues with crashes. Not the most stable DAW out there - that is for certain.

I meant that the latest update for FL Studio 21 was in early 2024. Meaning that it probably isn't supported anymore, as the OP claims.

At least I can't imagine that Image-Line supports old version of the DAW forever.

Agreed. That version has to be out of support by now.
