Can I install only AU (without VST & VST3) for Izotope plugins?

Greetings,

I made myself a gift for Christmass - Music Production Suite 8. But my iMac has quite a small hard drive. I have a Logic Pro and I heard that theoreticallyI could install just AU (without VST & VST3) for plugins. Is it true? If so how can I do so?

Or I should install plugins and then delete VST & VST3 for them? If that is the case where do they live?

Honestly the space the actual VST plugin files take up - are minimal.

Maybe couple 100 MB. Tiny really.

Then maybe another way. I have an external ssd. I configured Native access to instal to it. But that bundle by instruction I had to install using Izotope Product portal. I didn't find where to change install path so I guess it installed to my hard drive. Now just 10% of hard drive is free which I think is not good at all. And I didn't instal about a half or a third of plugins. Can I somehow set Izotope Product portal to install plugins on external drive?

Ideally - you do not want to install any system software (like apps, plugins, instruments) on an external drive.

Too slow. All actual executable software should reside on the system drive for best performance.

Externals are for content, samples, documents even your song data etc - but not actual software installs.

If you are getting down to 10% free on the system drive - you have bigger issues to solve - like going drive shopping and putting a bigger system drive in.
