Using the brass instruments from the symphony series, whenever i stop the DAW there is a "hanging note" that shifts down a semitone.
Any idea how to fix this bug?
You can start by adding all the stuff you didn't include such as is it the Brass Ensemble or Brass Solo and what DAW you're working with. When you stop the DAW it's not uncommon for a note that's still playing to continue unless you hit the stop button a second time to reset the audio. The shifting down is the question and may relate more to the DAW you're using.
Apologies for my late reply… notifications was not on.
For this particular piece im working on now it is the Brass solo, Tuba Legato. Im using Cakewalk by bandlab.
Very odd, since its does not seem to sustain last played note, more trigger a new note and then shift that down a semi tone.
Very odd. I've never encountered that on my Windows 10, Kontakt 8 and Ableton using my KONTROL S88MK3 keyboard. Makes me ask the question what keyboard are you using? I've never seen it fire off any note that wasn't pressed. If you examine the actual MIDI track recording in Cakewalk does it actually show the errant additional note? I would think the MIDI track would show the note alongside an errant mod wheel action.
I have an Korg Triton 66 keys that is used to hammer in midi data. Tried disconnecting that, turning it off, playing around with all the midi inputs/outputs and so on, but no success. It seems to be an issue with all my solo brass instruments. The piece im working on now does the same for the tube, horns and trombone.
Piano roll does not show signs of any note being triggered.
If you're certain that the MIDI is accurately represented that means the plugin has done it's job accurately. This would include the final note ending before the next measure when it would be fired again. If that's the case then there's something happening in your DAW in sending the MIDI back to the plugin causing the errant note. Have you tried shortening the final note so it ends shortly before the end of the measure? Just enough so the MIDI note off signal gets sent. It's been years since I used Cakewalk but I do seem to remember a bug with note endings due to the way Cakewalk buffers the MIDI. I've never experienced any of these problems with all those same plugins in Ableton.
It occurs when the playback is stopped. Regardless if its stopped at the end or in the middle of a section. That's the reason i find it so anoying. I often loop sections while doing midi edits, and if im doing a lot of fine tweaking it is a lot of start stop … with these brass sound living theyr own life in the back ground.
Anyway, it could very vell be a bug within the Daw. Cakewalk has not exactly been on a smooth path over the last years, and i have been contemplating moving over to a paid daw.
