I’m an avid user of multiscripts, as it allows me to endow, alter and remove features to an instrument which the developers might have overlooked or implemented in a cumbersome way. They are absolutely instrumental to my workflow, and one of the main reasons I still stick to Kontakt libraries. The flexibility it gives is truly amazing, and the scene has recently seen a flourishing with scripts from Grumpy Monkey’s plugins and other developers.
Given this love for the feature, it is with much concern that I now see the writing on the wall for its future. My understanding is that the new Default View will gradually replace the Standard View, and one day replace it entirely. The issue is that multiscripts are not supported in Default View whatsoever!
You could say that this is easy to rectify by simply adding support, but the way I see it, the Default View is a (long overdue) effort to modernize the UI of Kontakt, and multiscripts do not exactly fit into that modernization process with its very old-school UI and workflow. Also, it does not seem that much love has been given to multiscripts at all, so I see it as unlikely - but to remove it completely would be to alienate the users!
The new Tools feature could be a new platform, but from what I gather, it only supports Instrument KSP, which is very different from the midi handling capabilities of multiscripts, so that is probably not a silver bullets. But it could be - it is a very nice addition to Kontakt, and multiscripts would sit very nicely in that world in my opinion.
This post could be an instance of old (young actually) man’s yelling at clouds, but I at least wanted to share my concern in hopes that there is something the developers at NI can do to spare - or perhaps to reinvigorate - the future of multiscripts.
Lastly, I’ll allow myself to tag @EvilDragon as he perhaps can shine some light on the situation.
Fingers crossed!
