Feature Request: Quick-Split Mode for Two or more Instruments

Hello Native Instruments Team,

I would like to request a feature for Kontakt 8 (or a future update) to make setting up keyboard splits much faster.

Currently, if I want to split my keyboard between two VST instruments (two different NKI libraries), I have to:

1. Load both instruments into a multi.
2. Click the wrench icon for the first instrument.
3. Go to Instrument Options > Info.
4. Manually drag the "Key Range" handles to set the low end.
5. Click the wrench icon for the second instrument.
6. Go to its Instrument Options > Info.
7. Manually drag its "Key Range" handles to set the high end.

This process is a bit slow and requires a lot of clicks, especially for a simple live performance setup.

My Proposal:

Could you please add a "Quick Split" button or mode?

This could work in a few ways:

• Visual Splitter: A simple button on the main toolbar that shows a virtual keyboard. You could then drag two instruments onto it and just click on the keyboard to set the split point instantly.
• Right-Click Menu: Allow us to select two loaded instruments, right-click, and choose "Split Keyboard at [C3, C4, etc.]."

Having a dedicated, fast way to "split keyboard two vst instruments" would be a fantastic workflow improvement for performers and producers.

While you're waiting (they are unlikely to do this for you until at least the week after next) you could do your setup in advance and save multi as… This will save all the information, occupy (if you use Patch only) negligible RAM and take less than a second for each one.

If you want something more general, you could put your 2 instruments on separate channels and use a simple multiscript to divert your notes to one or the other according to which side of the split point they fall. You could even have a collection of multiscripts, one for each split point you are likely to want to use.
