when i edit parameters in the s61 does the preset remain intact ?

It depends on what you mean by parameters. Parameters that relate to the behavior of the keyboard itself such as Hardware or Keybed then yes as far as remaining as you set them between sessions.
If you are talking when you load a preset sound does the adjustments you make using the controls save, No, you would have to save a copy using File > Save As and it will save a copy of that preset into your user library.
