PLEASE HELP!

Hi all….

I don't know what is going on! I bought GR7 recently but my laptop couldn't deal with it. So I bought a new laptop. And it worked great.

But today I have started it, and it just will not work. In the settings, in the input section, it now says 'Microphone stopped 48kHz' both L & R. It never said that before. I have tried every combination of options but nothing. I have even reinstalled GR7 using the 'reinstall' button in Kontakt.

It is driving me insane, because up until today, it worked fine. I would normally have to click the correct soundcard option to make it work, but it worked.

Please help….

From one of your initial screenshots then it appear that you device is a Focusrite "Scarlett Solo USB".

I am not entirely sure how to interpret your "Downloading two drivers for Focusrite right now! Focusrite Driver & Focusrite USB Driver" , immediately it looks to me that you are not really sure about what you are actually doing and that impression is reinforced by that you are using a "Focusrite Thunderbolt ASIO" driver. Are your device even attached to a Thunderbolt port ?. And if it is then do the device then even support attachment to a Thunderbolt port ?

I think that you should back up (go back a little) and maybe remove all what you have done by restoring Windows from a recent restore point and then try again. Then make sure that your understand both to which supported computer port type your device is attached to as well as that your know what generation your device is (the rest of us for sure do not know).

If you check this Focusrite page then it appears that Focurite Scarlett Solo already has four generations.

If you click through the links for the proper Scarlett Solo generation then not only is there a driver download but also a bit down the page then you will also find a link to a manual with instructions for both how to install and setup , I suggest that you read the manual.

The manual will most likely say "Set the Driver Type to ASIO, and Audio Device to Focusrite USB ASIO"

When you have done that then tell us how that went.

I've just opened GR7 here to take a look as I Googled "Microphone stopped 48kHz" and got no results.

The Audio window actually shows Device, Status and Sample Rate separately, so presumably your Device is Microphone, the Status is Stopped and the Sample Rate shows 48kHz.

Looking at the Device dropdown here, there's nothing listed as Microphone………. so what input are you using? An audio interface (which one)? A USB mic? The onboard mic of a laptop? Webcam mic?

If the Status says Stopped then my guess is it's disabled or disconnected etc.

What audio interface are you using? Hoping this is not case of using the built in computer sound card?

I am using a seperate Focusrite soundcard (the red one). In the options it comes up as Scarlett Solo USB.

The soundcard is working, I can hear the guitar, but not the GR7 fx. It was working yesterday…..

Ah so it's the bottom section that says Stopped…

The selections at the bottom change depending on what you have enabled at the top. I'd suggest when using an ASIO interface, you should select ASIO not WASAPI.

Sorry, I was watching the football - shoulda checked this earlier. Thanks guys…..

OK, so the driver section only has two options WASAPI (shared mode) or WASAPI (exclusive mode). No ASIO. When I try exc. mode I can change the sample rate (can't with shared) and the 'stopped' window then says Microphone L & R.

And the output says Speakers L & Speakers R in the same place as the 'stopped' window is.

Before today it was all the same except it didn't say stopped.

It is driving me insane!

PK - I did notice that on previous laptops and using the same sound card, it was always ASIO. Not this weird WASAPI thingy (as you can probably tell, techy stuff is not my field of expertise!)

So where should I get that from? Do you mean a Focusrite driver, ASIO driver - what should I Google and download?

Can’t really use a Focusrite properly without installing its driver.

Should clear up immediately as soon as the drivers are in place.

Oh dear, it's gone really weird now. The volume slider is stuck at 0, got no sound when playing YT, but it does play the guitar but still without GR7 working. And when I go to settings/sounds it just freezes the window, can't change anything. It's worse now!

This window just freezes. It didn't the first time. Going to reboot. This is not good!

Oh man, from bad to worse! Rebooting did nothing. Still freezes on the sound settings page. No sound, can't change the volume slider and It's late here in the UK, I will be back tomorrow.

Hi all!

Everything is sorted! I got lucky and called the shop I bought it from, and the tech guy, who is rarely there, was in today. So I took it in, and he sorted it all out.

PoorFellow - you are indeed correct on two things a/ I don't know what I am doing and b/ the guy did exactly what you suggested. He started again and downloaded all the drivers from scratch. The only thing I can say in my defence, m'lord, is I did initially download the correct drivers, just for whatever reason it sent my laptop a bit mad.

But thanks to all you chaps who replied, much appreciated. I have clicked the question answered 'yes'.
