Hi All -I have some storage questions.
I have a 2018 Macbook Air Retina 13" with 500 GB of storage. And it's getting very full (about 1.79 GB of space left). I use Traktor Pro Version 3.9.0 90.
The only things on this laptop are
Firefox/Safari (which I use for browsing)
Tratktor 3
My MP3 music library stored in iTunes (now Apple Music is what it is called, but this in not streaming) - I am using version 1.1.2.28. My iTunes shows that I have 56,292 items (all songs - videos have been removed) using 423GB.
A few Apple installed Apps which I cannot remove (Pages/Numbers and the like have all been removed)
My storage shows 406GB of music, 370GB of documents, and 15GB of System. I am assuming that the document usage is cataloging the music or something, as I have no stored files other than music on the computer. Correct me if I'm wrong.
My goal: free up space on the computer/understand if I am somehow wasting storage space - and cleaning that up.
Is there a way to clean this up (am I storing things twice or somehow wasting space) to free up storage?
How easy would it be for me to move all of the music to a dedicated external harddrive? I am very nervous about this as five years ago, during one of the updates, I transferred a huge chunk of library to an external disc, and lost some MP3s, but many of my playlists were lost, and my music on the iTunes was no longer listed in order of most recently added… it was all scrambled.
If you can help explain some solutions, please do, and you can talk to me like I'm simple, as I really don't want to lose everything again. Thanks!
