Hi everyone, can someone help me? I want to record my vinyl in Audacity and use the S4mk3's sound card. I need to route my phono input on my S4 directly to the Audacity program. How do I do this? I can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts !
Wouldn't it be easier to play it through Traktor and use record there?
What step are you hung at?
@PK thanks for your reply . I've thought about that too and will do it if it doesn't work, but it seemed like a challenge to me to route the audio directly into Audacity to skip this extra step. It should be possible, I think.
@ Lord CarlosWith all due respect , I've already done some research online and followed these steps. I also enabled Chat GPT, which returned this answer:This is a known "Core Audio / exclusive access" issue on macOS with the S4 MK3. To summarize:• The S4 MK3 functions as an audio interface, but Traktor Pro uses it entirely when active.• If you close Traktor Pro, Audacity should be able to use the S4, but in practice, Audacity often doesn't access it because the S4 is still in "exclusive mode" or macOS doesn't release the device. Starting Audacity first doesn't help either; the sound simply doesn't reach Audacity.
Can you share a screenshot of the devices you see in the audacity recording device drop down?
What do you see in that list? Please share a screenshot.
I don't know about mac, but I don't think any device should be in exclusive mode when no app is using it.
FYI whilst researching, I just found an old forum post that says there's a hum on the S4MK3 phono preamp.

Yes! When connected to a line-level source (not phono) and the signal amplification is high, I hear a strange buzzing sound. I ran the S4 through a non-original power supply, and this sound was amplified. I haven't tried it in phono mode because I don't have a vinyl deck.
I have Windows 10, and when I launch the controller without Traktor, all programs have access to the S4 audio interface. Have you tried recording from vinyl using Traktor?
