Request for Main Knob Function Rollback after Firmware 2.0 Update

Afaik the wheel encoder has always controlled the volume of the selected track in mixer view, this isn't a change in behaviour in FW V2.0. We will continue to monitor feedback on this however.

That's not true as far as I know cuz I've been using it every single day for 4 months. Even now, I've disabled the midi remote script and sort of rolled it back through Remote Devices in Studio Settings. The knob controls the cursor in both plug-in and DAW mode. Yup it’s always been for ‘scroll playhead position’ - just look in previous versions of the manual

You can control track volume already with the mixer controls so it’s redundant to have the jogwheel do it too

True. The function change took place right after I updated its firmware a few days ago. Too stupid to believe that it could be made by any actual user of the keyboard.

I went back to the manual and have to admit there is something I missed - according to this (this is the pre firmware 2 manual) under transport control it says Jogwheel is set to Scroll playhead position but under Mixer control it is set to Coarse track volume - but how can it be both? There doesn't seem to be a toggle to switch between those 2 modes, nor is it a case of whether a track is selected or not. So I'm guessing the first option was kept for the new plugin mode and the second for DAW mode - but I still think I would prefer it scrolled playhead position in both modes and left mixer/track volume control to the already existing knobs.

Ok figured it out - to get a global Jogwheel→ Scroll playhead you now need to hit the MIDI button and it takes you out of DAW or Plugin modes - I think the manual needs updating to make that clearer

What the manual means is that in mixer mode the wheel changes the selected track volume, and in all other modes it changes transport position.

I don't have a keyboard with me to double check the behaviour before the update, but if it was different from that (which I doubt), that would've been a bug.

This feature isn't really redundant as it's possible for the selected track to not be shown on the mixer (e.g. if you use the left-right arrow keys). However I do understand that it's desirable to have it be consistent so that you don't have to think which page you're on, I'll discuss with the team in a few weeks when I'm back from vacation.

That's true we did introduce a behaviour change that you no longer get automatically taken to midi mode in some situations. So maybe it feels like we changed the mapping even though we didn't.

I actucally had a zipped mp4 video uploaded above, to showcase the behavior without the midi remote script that came with the 2.0 update, which is also exactly the same as it used to be. You may download and watch that video.

No matter what, since you claimed that this feature is not reluctant, I really have to share some opinions with you.

First, if the current channel isn't shown on current mixing page, just click the arrows to nav to it! Keeping mixing channels neat and accessable is a basic skill to all pros. In Cubase and most modern DAWs, users can always temporarily hide channels from mixer that they are not working on, so they don't have hundreds of channels in the mixer at the same time. A few occasional clicks don't kill, but everyone needs playhead position control at all time!

Next, assuming one in a million chance, I really need to work on 1000 tracks and I'm too lazy to nav, finally I could use your considerate feature to change volumn happily, really? No! That 4D encoder is detented! A minimal change of each click is 10 dB! Who on earth could use that for 'tuning' any tracks? I refuse to admit that kind of thing could be called 'tuning' before you set the interval to 0.1 dB.

Finally, to be constructive, though I don't think I would ever need the 4D encoder for volumn control in my life, you may first keep the encoder controlling playhead position under all pages, and always use shift+encoder for volumn tuning, if you really love this feature. Don't forget to narrow the interval! TBH any interval larger that 1 dB would be totally useless.
