DAW mode no longer working on Nuendo 14 after Kontrol S-Series MK3 Firmware 2.0 update. DAW button, play, record, stop buttons no longer light up and aren't accessible.
Nuendo is not 'officially' supported but theoretically it should just be a matter of copying the Cubase scripts to the Nuendo script folder. We could consider doing this as part of the installation in a later update
The installation issues should be fixed in the latest 2.0.5 update, I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. There was an incompatibility with Native Access introduced into the installers, which we missed in our testing, and had to work around the clock to get a fix out.
They are in
Documents/Steinberg
There's another recent thread about Nuendo here on the forum with some more detailed instructions so maybe take a look for that
Based on what @timrae_NI said earlier regarding the scripts, I did the following
(On Mac):
//This is where I saw both the Cubase and Nuendo folders. Looked under ~/Documents/Steinberg/Cubase/MIDI Remote/"Driver Scripts"/Local in both folders.
//Saw that Cubase folder contained a NativeInstruments folder with Kontrol_S_Mk3/NativeInstruments_Kontrol_S_Mk3.js
2. copied (nativeinstruments folder in Cubase folder)
~/Documents/Steinberg/Cubase/MIDI Remote/"Driver Scripts"/Local/NativeInstruments
to (Local folder in Nuendo folder)
~/Documents/Steinberg/Nuendo/MIDI Remote/"Driver Scripts"/Local/NativeInstruments
3. Started up a project in Nuendo. The attached pic shows what I saw at the bottom of the nuendo app. Without a lot of testing, it seemed to work.
This was on Nuendo version 14.0.32 Build 342 (Apple Silicon) - Built on Jun 19 2025, MacOS Sequoia 15.6, Mac mini M4. Hope the functionality is the same as it would have been with no update issue. Time will tell.
Hope this helps!
Same here with Cubase 14
And othe weird issues as well, like, selecting another track, even an empty audio track, the BROWSER Mode (and PLUGIN Mode) still shows the previews Komplete Kontrol instruments (and Instrument Panel).
Thank you unfortunately it seems Native Access is having issues with the new Hardware Connection Service on Windows for some reason. Please manually install from your account page until we can get the problem resolved:
https://www.native-instruments.com/en/account/downloads/
You also need to update to the latest version of Cubase 13 / 14
@timrae_NI
3 questions:
You mention that there are issues with the new Hardward Connection Service on Windows. Is this the same for Mac (Sequoia/M4)?
Given that the S-series hardware update was successful, what are you saying needs to be manually installed from my account page?
Is it possible to go back to previous hardware state on S88 mk3?
All Native Access updates installed successfully. All available updates to Nuendo 14 installed successfully.
On Mac there is also issues for Cubase users, so you'll need to install manually as mentioned above there also
The Hardware Connection Service
Theoretically you should just be able to go back to the old 1.9.x Hardware Connection Service to get the old Cubase integration working again, you shouldn't need to downgrade the firmware. That should be available at the same location as mentioned above.
Noticed that Nuendo is not in the official support list for the new firmware update - at least in the early going here.
Does the fact that Cubase IS in the list - automatically mean that Nuendo would be supported as well?

Tried it on Cubase 12. DAW functionality on S88 mk3 lit up as before, but still not for Nuendo 14. Where might those scripts @timrae_NI referred to be found typically?
After version 2.0.5 (Cubase 14), DAW mode works properly (almost), except for the ENCODER: it doesn't skip foward/backwards anymore. And now PLUGIN and BROWSER Modes doesn't work, on Kontakt 7, or Komplete Kontrol.
What if you run Komplete Kontrol standalone? Does that work? Do you see the hardware connection service running in task manager / activity monitor?
Komplete Kontrol in standalone is not even recognized by KONTROL. Both buttons with no lights [BROWSER] and [PLUG-IN]
edit: The same with KONTAKT 8 Player
Hmm sounds like hardware connection service isn't running for some reason. Try reinstalling it?
In fact I'm on the middle of a work. So, I prefered to downgrade the KONTROL to 1.0.9, as well as Hardware Connection to 1.0.9, so it's running fine now. But, for sure next week I can try to reinstall it and give more detailed reports 😉
