Expression & MIDI in NI Sound Libraries

I hope I got the right forum. Please feel free to redirect me. 

I’m using Kontrol S61 MK3 with Logic Pro X on a MacStudio and almost exclusively NI Sound Libraries. Love everything so far and most of it is very well crafted and intuitive to use. I also have an Icon P1 as a digital mixer (but mostly use the Kontrol Keyboard for recording and expression). 

One issue I found that probably has a simple fix that is escaping me is that some NI Sound Library, such as the Session Series (Session Horns & Session Strings Pro 2) seem to be able to be controlled (musical expression wise) by either velocity or the mod wheel (or MIDI CC). The issue is that sometimes I would want to control both velocity AND expression (expression, modulation, breath, bow, etc.) and the velocity setting, whilst seemingly more accurate than the mod wheel setting lacks these expressive features that elevate MIDI to realism. 

How do you guys go around this? Do you automate volume or anything else to introduce minor expressive swells? Or am I missing something?
