Kontakt 7 &/or 8 won't save preset in Bitwig

Hi,

Kontakt works fine in Cubase 14 pro, but when i save a Kontakt preset, or settings, in Bitwig, it saves fine, but when I reload the project and click the track with Kontakt in, it goes straight to the library, and does not remember the preset I saved.

I contacted Bitwig and they reckon it's a Kontakt problem, and when I had to speak to the NI robot help chat, they couldn't help either.

I actually got an error from bitwig on the first save, saying it could not save the Kontakt instance,.

I sent the error below, and they still think it's NI

Any help would be appreciated

Changed the permissions in properties for Kontakt 7 and 8 player, and in Bitwig, for the hell of it, and Kontakt now saves without that error, BUT, on reload, although Kontakt 8 shows the instruments menu on the right hand side, with the saved preset selected, non of the adjustments I made were there.

So this now might be a Bitwig problem :-)

Looks like a permissions issue, unfortunately I am on Mac so the setup is different, and this isn't happening for me, but in Mac there is such a thing as allowing full disk access to hosts - is there something similar on Windows where you can run a host, say in admin mode or something where it has permission to access files created in other apps? Alternatively it might be related to Bitwig's sandboxing - I have set it up by vendor - you could try changing whatever setting you have.

It does look like a permission issue. One first step would be to run Bitwig and Kontakt 7 & 8 as admin: How to Run a Program as an Administrator

Hi Kymeia and Jeremy

Thank you for your answers, which I have only just read, as i didn't get any notifications.

Jeremy - I am loathe to run bitwig as an administrator, as it prevents some actions, when I had a problem with Bitwig trial, as that would only work when i ran it as an administrator.

I was told to reset my PC, (which sorted out that, and other problems I was having)

So bitwig runs fine now, I don't think i can run Kontakt within Bitwig, which not being run as an administrator

Kymeia - I will look into Windows properties, which is where that might be.

If I win some money, I will be going the Mac way, so fingers crossed :-)

If it is it is on Windows as I can save tweaks and all on my Mac - try running it as admin

btw I do not understand Windows permissions but back in the day (maybe 15 years ago) when I used it I seem to recall I had an admin privileges setup as the default for the main user - is that not possible anymore?

I am down as an Administrator, but windows sometimes asks for an operation to be performed by an admin.

This doesn't happen too often and it also allows me to carry on with the operation, if i click ok, very confusing.

As i said before, i cannot run Bitwig as an administrator, and to be honest, I am only getting this problem with Kontakt.

I treated myself a while ago to Arturia collection X, I have Cubase pro and Absolute, and just treated myself to IK Multimedia sale of Sampletank 4

If I cannot sort this out in Bitwig, I will just not use Kontakt

I haven't got too deep into the Kontakt setup, so I am sure I can find enough sounds without it:-)

It is annoying though, as every other app I use with Bitwig, works fine
